Career-Highs for Several Tornados in Setback at Bob Jones

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-5) dropped a non-conference road tilt at Bob Jones University (1-3), 90-82, on Tuesday night at Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina.  In the defeat, several Tornados set new career-highs, while the Bruins pulled away late for the victory.
 
Senior forward Alex Wesig came off the bench to lead all scorers with a career-high 24 points in 25 minutes.  The Lawrenceville, Georgia native shot 11-of-17 from the field en route to the career-best scoring output. Wesig also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists on the evening.
 
Freshman Garrett Sutherland registered 10 points, a career-high as a collegiate for the forward from Atlanta.  Sutherland hit two three-pointers and was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in a career-high 16 minutes off the bench.
 
Sophomore guard Charles Reed matched his career-high in rebounds with eight to go along with four assists.  Sophomore LB Boyette added nine points while guards David Sealy and Carson Evans each sank two three-pointers en route to eight points a piece.
 
Brevard and Bob Jones played a tight contest for most of the first half, with the score tied 32-32 with 4:42 to play before intermission. The Bruins opened up a five-point lead late in the stanza, but a Wesig layup and two free throws by Boyette cut the deficit to 42-39 at halftime.
 
Brevard kept within five points several times in the second half before the Bruins pulled away late for the win. Bob Jones benefited from a 19-of-23 total from the free-throw line in the second half, while BC attempted just three free throws in the period.  
 
For the game, the Bruins were 20-of-28 from the charity stripe with BC 6-of-8 at the line.  Bob Jones shot 53% from the field, while the Tornados shot 43%. Brevard won the battle of the glass, out-rebounding the Bruins 39-29.
 
Brevard returns to action with another road non-conference contest as the Tornados travel to Emory, Virginia to face off vs. Emory & Henry.  Tip-off is set for Friday at 5 p.m. on the campus of Emory & Henry College.
