Pride Defeat Tornados in November Non-Conference Tilt

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-4) fell 78-62 to Greensboro College (2-5) in a non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Junior Paris Crawford came off the bench to lead the Tornados with a career-high 13 points. The native of Atlanta went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line and hit four field goals including a three-pointer in 18 minutes of play.

Junior Quincy Carter also scored in double figures with 12 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Four of Carter's rebounds were off the offensive glass as the Decatur, Georgia native, who also registered two assists and two steals.

Crawford's 13 points contributed to a strong showing by the Brevard bench as Tornado reserves totaled a season-high 34 points.  A total of seven bench players scored in the contest. Freshman Garrett Sutherland registered his first points as a collegiate player in a six-point effort that included his first three-pointer in a Tornado uniform.

Brevard led early in the contest taking a 5-4 lead with 17:08 to play in the first half on a David Sealy three-pointer off an assist by Carter.  A Crawford free throw later put BC ahead 11-9 before an 8-0 run by the Pride. Senior Hayden Cassell hit a three-pointer to snap the GC run and cut the deficit to 17-14, however, the Pride would pull away again taking a 10-point lead into the half.

The Tornados fell behind by as many as 17 early in the second half, before coming back to shave the deficit into single digits at 59-50 on two Carson Evans free throws.  The Pride however responded with a decisive 17-run over the next four minutes to take control of the eventual outcome.

GC outshot BC 42% to 33% from the field, yet the Tornados were slightly more efficient from beyond the arc, making seven threes.  Greensboro shot 76% (19-of-25), while Brevard went 65% (17-of-26) from the charity stripe.  Each team committed 19 turnovers.  Greensboro was productive in transition with 16 fast-break points.

Brevard will return to non-conference action with the first of three straight road games at Bob Jones University on Tuesday, November 30. The next home game for BC is Saturday, December 11 vs. Berea which will mark the USA South Conference opener.
