SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-3) fell 81-72 in overtime to host Sewanee (1-4) on Tuesday night in Sewanee, Tennessee.
With the score tied 66-66 at the end of regulation, Sewanee outscored BC 15-6 in overtime to take the victory.
Junior guard Quincy Carter led the charge for the Tornados with 17 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, all career bests in a BC uniform for the native of Decatur, Georgia. Carter hit three 3-pointers, also a career best as a Tornado, en route to his 17 points.
Junior Chancey Watson also scored a career-high as a Tornado with 16 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Sophomore LB Boyette scored in double-figures as well with 12 points.
The first half saw each team shoot over 50% from the field with Carter (11 points) and Watson (10 points) each rapidly reaching double-figures. The two teams entered the intermission deadlocked at 37-37.
The Tornados went on a 7-0 run to start the second half capped off by a three-pointer from Carter at the 16:11 mark. Sewanee however would battle back with a 12-2 run to take a 49-46 lead with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation.
BC would play from behind until back-to-back three-pointers by Watson and junior David Sealy would tie the score. A Sealy layup with 17 seconds left followed by a defensive stop would then send the game into overtime tied at 66 apiece.
The home team never trailed in the extra period as the Tigers shot 6-of-7 from the floor to use a 15-4 run to start overtime and pull away for the victory.
Brevard returns home for action on Saturday vs. Greensboro College at 4 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
