BREVARD, N.C. – Following a big 31-0 victory over Maryville College on Homecoming, Steffon Canady and Taylor Jackson III were selected as USA South Conference Players of the Week, with Canady taking home Defensive Player of the Week while Jackson was picked Offensive Player of the Week.

The honors mark the second and third conference weekly award winners for BC football in the Fall 2021 season.

Canady, a senior linebacker from Glendale, Arizona, helped lead a Tornado defense that shut out Maryville. The Exercise Science major logged a game-high three sacks while forcing a pair of fumbles, recovering one, while also tallying three quarterback hurries and five tackles on the afternoon.

Canady's three sacks on Saturday were his highest single-game total since the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl at Carnegie Mellon, where he tied a program record with four quarterback takedowns. Through three seasons at BC, Canady has accumulated a program-record of 18 sacks while totaling 132 tackles, 29.5 tackles-for-loss, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Jackson, a sophomore quarterback from Guyton, Georgia, made the first start of his collegiate career Saturday vs. Maryville, where he broke out for four touchdown passes and 241 total yards – racking up 204 passing yards and 37 rushing yards in the victory.

Canady, Jackson, and the rest of the Tornados will return to action this Saturday as conference play rolls on. Brevard will take on LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
