BREVARD, N.C. – Adding to an impressive resume of accolades, junior defensive back Joc Pledger has been selected as Brevard College's first Preseason All-American recipient in the school's NCAA DIII era. Pledger was honored as a Second Team defensive selection following a breakout sophomore campaign that saw him become the school's first All-American honoree in the DIII era.

Pledger, a native of Monroe, Georgia, finished the Spring 2021 season tied-for-second in the nation with five interceptions, adding 19 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble to his ledger. Only through two seasons at Brevard, Pledger already is tied for second in BC Football program history with nine career interceptions.

The standout defensive back helped lead the Tornados to a 4-1 overall record in the Spring 2021 campaign, as Brevard earned a USA South Conference West Division Co-Championship. Pledger was also a key contributor on the 2019 squad that finished with the most overall wins (eight) in school history and claimed the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.

Pledger and the rest of the Tornados are slated to kick their 2021 season off on Saturday, September 4, when Brevard travels to Rome, Georgia to face NCAA DII Shorter University at 12 p.m. Brevard opens its home schedule up at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday, September 11, hosting The Apprentice School at 1 p.m.
