BC Cycling Ready for NC Cyclocross Grand Prix in Hendersonville

BC Cycling Ready for NC Cyclocross Grand Prix in Hendersonville

BREVARD, N.C. – Following a successful start to the 2021 Cyclocross season, the ten-time national champion Brevard College Cycling team is prepared for the North Carolina Grand Prix, presented by Hunter Subaru to be held this Saturday and Sunday at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Brevard College racers will be competing in several events at the North Carolina Grand Prix with full race schedules on both Saturday and Sunday.  Each race day will include collegiate as well as UCI Elite men's and women's races, featuring several Tornados.

The Collegiate Men's A/B race is scheduled to start at 11:01 a.m. each day with seven BC student-athletes – Dalton Collins, Philip Ford, Ryan Johnson, Kyle McDonald, Tyler Miranda, Tyler Orschel and Dylan Richardson - registered to compete.  Prior to the Collegiate Men's race, BC's Paige Edwards, Erica Leonard and Rachel Pageau are registered to race in the Collegiate Women's A race scheduled for 10:03 a.m.  BC's Jack Brown, Finn Cullen, Cameron Mader and Matthew Zuniga will race in the Collegiate Men's C category, slated for an 8:33 a.m. start.

Each afternoon, the UCI Elite races will take place with competitors vying for position in national and world cyclocross standings.   BC senior Hannah Dickson will race in the UCI Elite Women's race at 2:15 p.m. each day.  The UCI Elite Men's race will include Brevard seniors Tyler Clark and Tyler Orschel as well as freshman Owen Clark.  The elite men's races are scheduled for 3:25 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The 17th annual North Carolina Grand Prix, hosted by NCCX (North Carolina Cyclo-Cross), is part of the USA Cycling ProCX Series and represents the final two races of the GoCross/NCGP Cup.  The two-day event is free to spectators and will feature a variety of food options and vendors.  Jackson Park, the race venue, is located at 708 Glover Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  For more information, go to nccyclocross.com.

Brevard opened its 2021 Cyclocross season with two NCCX races in Newton and Hickory, North Carolina on November 6-7.  At the NCCX-Newton race, BC's Owen Clark and Tyler Clark finished 1-2 in the Men's Pro 1/2/3 category, while seven BC riders placed in the Men's Collegiate A race.  Caleb McCaskill of Brevard won the Men's Collegiate C category and finished second in Men's 4/5 competition.  Dickson won the Women's Collegiate A race at Newton with Leonard finishing fourth. 

Leonard then won the Women's Collegiate A with Dickson finishing second the following day at the NCCX-Hickory race.  Owen Clark and Tyler Clark placed 1-2 again in the Men's Pro 1/2/3 race, while McCaskill again won the Men's Collegiate C race in Hickory.

Last weekend, the Tornados raced at the NCCX-Charlotte event where Tyler Clark won the Men's Pro 1/2/3 race with Owen Clark placing second.  BC's Miranda (5th), Dylan Richardson (9th), Collins (10th), and Johnson (15th) all placed in the top-15 in the Men's Pro race as well.  Senior Madison Altman placed fourth in the Women's 3/4 category, while Leonard (5th), Dickson (6th) and Edwards (8th) all earned top-ten's in the Women's Pro 1/2/3 race.

Following this weekend's North Carolina Grand Prix, the BC Cycling team will turn its attention to the 2021 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships to be held December 9-10 in Wheaton, Illinois.
