Four Race Wins Highlight Strong BC Mountain Bike Performance in Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Brevard College Cycling team continued its Fall 2021 season with another strong performance this past weekend at the LWC Mountain Bike Showdown at the Lindsey Wilson Cycling Complex in Columbia, Kentucky.

Four Tornados won races to go along with eight podiums and 23 top-ten finishes at the two-day event. Sophomore Jack Brown (Men's A Downhill), freshman Philip Ford (Men's B Dual Slalom), senior Ryan Johnson (Men's C Downhill) and freshman Dylan Richardson (Men's B Cross Country) all came away with race wins for the Tornados.

Through three races in the 2021 season, the Tornados have now accumulated a whopping 17 race wins, 44 podium finishes and 115 top-ten results.

Brown earned the win in Men's A Downhill held on Sunday with Cameron Mader (5th) and Watt Hackney (7th) adding top-ten's in the category.  Johnson and Caleb McCaskill finished 1-2 in the Men's C races, while Bryant Bole (5th, Men's B), Nate Stone (7th, Men's B) and Carter Simmons (8th, Men's C) also garnered top-ten's in downhill racing.

Ford won Men's B Dual Slalom on Saturday, his third career win in just three race weekends of collegiate competition.  Mader added a podium with a third-place result in Men's A Dual Slalom.  Bole (4th, Men's B), Simon Donnaway (6th, Men's A), Brown (8th, Men's A), Adam Kluge (9th, Men's A) and Stone (10th, Men's B) added top-ten's for the Tornados in the dual slalom.

Ford added another podium to his ledger with a third-place finish in Men's A Cross Country with his teammate Tyler Miranda placing sixth.  Richardson then won his first collegiate race with a top finish in Men's B Cross Country as BC took four of the top five spots in the category.  Brevard's Kyle McDonald placed third, Hackney finished fourth and McCaskill fifth to accompany Richardson in a dominant team effort.  BC's Matthew Zuniga added a seventh-place finish in Men's C Cross Country and Ford a fifth-place result in Men's B Short Track Cross Country to give the Tornados a total of eight top-ten's in cross country categories.

On the women's side, sophomore Nina Machnowski finished sixth in Women's A Short Track Cross Country and 13th in Women's A Short Track Cross Country to lead Brevard.  Senior Hannah Dickson placed 22nd in each of the two category A cross country events.

Next up for the Tornados is the SECCC Championship on Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3 in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
