Tornados Drop Doubleheader on the Road in Toccoa

TOCCOA, Ga. - The Brevard College baseball team (1-3) fell in a pair of contests on the road to Toccoa Falls College (7-4) on Saturday afternoon in Toccoa, Georgia. 

The Tornados fell behind by three runs in the first contest before scoring a pair in the top of the seventh inning, as a late rally came up just short. Toccoa Falls scored seven unanswered runs in the second game to sweep the doubleheader. 

GAME ONE - TOCCOA FALLS 6, BREVARD 5

Lucas Granata led all Tornados with a 2-for-4 outing that included a triple. Cale Oehler added a triple and two RBIs, while Tristian Robinson hit the first home run of 2023 for the Tornados. Zach Allison and Logan Clark also tallied hits for Brevard. 

Trenten Anderson (0-2) got the start for the Tornados in game one, lasting four and 2/3 innings allowing five hits and six runs - three of which are earned. The junior righty struck out five batters but walked four. Sophomore Noah Webb came on in relief and hurled an inning and a third of scoreless ball. 

TFC's Chathan Clouatre and Jack Kraus each turned in multi-hit performances to lead the Screaming Eagle offense. Ricky Patrick (1-0) earned the win on the mound throwing five innings off three-run ball, while Joshua Ramey came on for the two-inning save. 

BC struck first with a two-run first inning as Oehler roped an RBI triple that scored Clark. Granata followed suit with an RBI single to plate Oehler. 

Toccoa Falls used a solo home run and a sacrifice fly to tie things up in the bottom of the second inning. 

After a scoreless third frame, Robinson went yard in the top of the fourth to give Brevard the lead back. However, the lead was short-lived as a pair of walks came back to bite BC in the bottom of the fourth as an RBI double tied game one back up. 

A pair of errors proved critical in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Screaming Eagles played three runs on three hits and two BC errors.The Tornados were denied runs in the top of the sixth, yet put together a seventh-inning rally. 

After Blake Burchett drew a leadoff walk and Allison followed with a single, Clark drilled a fly ball to right field that was enough to bring Burchett across to score. Oehler brought Allison home with an RBI groundout making it a 6-5 contest, but a flyout ended game one as Toccoa Falls held on for the one-run win. 

GAME TWO - TOCCOA FALLS 8, BREVARD 1

Brevard scored the first run of game two, as Oehler hit an RBI double that brought Clark home in the top of the first inning. Toccoa Falls answered right back with an RBI double of its own. 

Toccoa Falls scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, using a hit, an error, a walk, and good baserunning to open up a three-run lead, 4-1. 

With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, a walk, single and three-run homer gave the hosts a six-run advantage, 7-1. Toccoa Falls tacked on a run in the sixth on a solo shot, as the Screaming Eagles clinched an 8-1 triumph to sweep the doubleheader. 

Cesar Rodriguez (0-1) gave up three earned runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Jacob Thompson came on in relief for Brevard for two innings. 

Brevard will host Toccoa Falls tomorrow in a pair of seven-inning contests beginning at 12 p.m. at Gil Coan Field.
