Brevard Wins 20th Game of 2022 with 15-7 Triumph at Bob Jones

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College baseball team (20-15) earned its 20th win of the season in a 15-7 victory over Bob Jones University (7-29) on Tuesday night at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina

The milestone marks the first time that the BC baseball program has reached 20 wins since the 2012 campaign when the Tornados won 27 games and qualified for the SAC Tournament. This marks just the second time in Brevard's NCAA era that baseball has reached 20 wins in a single season.

Brevard took a 5-2 lead in the top of the third inning and never looked back en route to the eight-run win. Several Tornados accomplished career highs in the contest.

Freshman first baseman Cale Oehler went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a career-high five RBIs, while fellow freshman standout third baseman Frankie Vasquez launched a solo shot, part of a 3-for-4 effort from the Pembroke Pines, Florida native.

Blake Burchett, Peter Fumero, and Tristan Robinson all had multi-hit performances, with Robinson launching his first career home run in the top of the second inning. Jack Atkinson and Fumero hit doubles, while Logan Clark stole a pair of bases and Lucas Granata totaled his first career RBI.

Making his second start of the season, freshman RHP Aiden Perry (1-0) earned the win - the first of his college career - lasting five innings with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Noah Webb, Jordan Douglas, and Tanner Charlet - who was making his collegiate debut - all saw work for the Tornado pitching staff.

Bob Jones scored a run in the bottom of the first before Robinson's two-run shot put Brevard back on top, 2-1. The Bruins were able to answer back to tie the contest one last time, but the Tornado offense came through as Oehler's two-run HR and Vasquez's solo shot made it a 5-2 affair after three innings.

Both sides scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, with Brevard being highlighted by Atkinson's RBI double and Fumero's RBI single, as the Tornados carried a 7-4 lead into the latter stages of the contest.

BC scored two in the sixth before exploding for four runs in the top of the seventh frame, as Brevard held a 13-4 lead heading into the seventh-inning stretch.

The Bruins scored a run in the bottom half of the frame, but BC's offense wasn't done quite yet as Granata and Luke Morton each had RBIs in the top of the eighth.

A sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk made it a 15-7 affair, but it was too little too late for Bob Jones as the Tornados picked up win number 20 on the season.

Brevard will conclude its home-and-home series against the Bruins on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Gil Coan Field, marking the final home game of 2022 for BC Baseball.
