Alvarez, Brodmyer from BC Track & Field/Cross Country Named Academic All-District

BREVARD, N.C. – Two Brevard College student-athletes were selected as 2022-23 Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District  performers, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).  BC’s Luis Alvarez and Devon Brodmyer were both named to the Academic All-District team for the 2022-23 season and now advance to the ballot for the 2022-23 CSC Academic All- America team.

The Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program that has been honoring outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952.  The CSC Academic All-America Cross Country/Track & Field teams will be announced later in June.

Alvarez is a senior majoring in Criminal Justice at Brevard College who hails from Guadalupe, Arizona.  A strong sprinter for the Tornados, Alvarez was a member of BC’s 4x100-meter relay team that finished third at the USA South Conference Track & Field Championships where he was named Third Team All-Conference along with being named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team.  A dual-sport athlete, Alvarez played wide receiver for the Tornados football team and also was named to the Football Academic All-District team in the Fall of 2022.

Brodmyer, a rising senior from Marietta, Georgia, earned Academic All-District honors with his work in the classroom as a Business and Organizational Leadership major and as a distance runner for the Tornados.  He finished second in the 800 meters at the conference championships and was named Second Team All-Conference, while also earning a third-place podium finish in the 5,000 meters.  A First Team All-Conference performer in Cross Country, Brodmyer placed fifth at the conference championships in the Fall of 2022 with a time of 26:57.7.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
