  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Gavin Morgan Places Second at 2019 ECAC Men's Cross Country Championships

    Brevard College sophomore standout Gavin Morgan wrapped up the Tornados' 2019 cross country season with a second-place finish at the 2019 ECAC Men's Cross Country Championships, held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, New York on Saturday, November 9.  Morgan's second-place finish marked the sophomore's highest individual finish of his collegiate career thus far.  The Hayesville, North Carolina native was just edged out by McDaniel College's Jack Conjelko, who finished the 8,000-meter race with a time of 27:28. Morgan's time of 27:30 was followed by St. Joseph's (Ill.) freshman Ryan Wilson who completed the course with a time of 27:56.8 to round out the podium. 
  • Cross Country Set for ECAC Championships in New York

    Brevard College men’s cross country members Gavin Morgan and Michael Fader are set to travel with Head Coach Darryll Patrick to Milton, New York this weekend to take part in the 2019 ECAC Cross Country Championships, held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.  Last Spring, Coach Patrick led his Track & Field program to the 2019 ECAC Track & Field Championships, where his 4x100 team claimed first place.  Morgan, a sophomore standout from Hayesville, North Carolina, is coming off an impressive season in which he has been honored numerous times by the USA South Conference. The sophomore earned two USA South Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week awards, while garnering a spot on the All-Conference Second Team after his ninth-place finish in last weekend’s USA South Cross Country Championships.  Morgan has enjoyed impressive success to this point in Brevard's cross country season. The sophomore earned a top-10 finish in the season-opener at Tusculum University,  finishing with a time of 28:11 for a seventh-place finish. He placed 13th at Berea College's Mike & Mary Kay Invitational (27:57) before setting his new personal record with a 26:28 8k time at the highly-competitive Queen City Invitational, hosted by NCAA DI UNC Charlotte. Morgan earned a hard-fought podium finish at the Charleston Classic - another NCAA DI race - with a time of 27:03 that earned the sophomore third place.
  • Brown, Turner Selected to USA South All-Sportsmanship Team

    Senior Molly Brown and junior Solomon Turner were selected as Brevard College’s representatives on the USA South Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Team. The honorees were announced at the 2019 USA South Cross Country Banquet, held at the Rocky Mount Mills Power House on Friday evening in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The event precluded the 2019 USA South Cross Country Championships, held on Saturday at the campus of N.C. Wesleyan College.
  • Brevard’s Gavin Morgan Lands on All-Conference Second Team

    Brevard College sophomore student-athlete Gavin Morgan was slotted onto the USA South Conference Men’s Cross Country All-Conference Second Team following his ninth-place finish at the 2019 USA South Men’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted by N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Morgan officially finished Saturday’s 8000-meter race with a time of 26:37.34 – an improvement on his championship time from last year by over two minutes and 30 seconds – to earn his top-10 result. Runners placing 1-7 are named to the first team, while second-teamers are those who finish 8-14. Those on the third team finished the meet at 15-21, while placers 22-24 are named honorable mention.
  • Several Awards, PR’s Highlight Conference Championships for Tornados

    The Brevard College men’s & women’s cross country teams recently took part in the 2019 USA South Conference Cross Country Championships, held on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Saturday, November 2. Brevard’s sophomore standout Gavin Morgan led the way for the Tornados on the day, placing ninth in a competitive field featuring the conference’s top runners. Morgan, a native of Hayesville, North Carolina, finished the 8k race with an impressive time of 26:37.34 to secure the top-10 finish. Morgan’s place in the race secured him a nod on the USA South Men’s Cross Country All-Conference Second Team, awarded to those who placed 8-14 in Saturday’s race. The accolade adds to an already impressive arsenal of hardware collected by Morgan this season. He has twice been named the USA South Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week in 2019 – an honor that was celebrated on Friday evening at the 2019 USA South Cross Country Banquet, held at the Rocky Mount Mills Power House. There, Morgan was recognized alongside the other runners and rookies of the week.
  • Cross Country Heads to 2019 USA South Championships in Rocky Mount

    The Brevard College men’s & women’s cross country teams are set to compete in the 2019 USA South Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, November 2 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The meet will pit the Tornado runners against the top competition that the USA South has to offer. The women’s race will take place at 11 a.m., while the men’s will commence at 12 p.m.  Sophomore standout Gavin Morgan will look to be a factor in this weekend’s race. Morgan has posted impressive-result-after-impressive-result this season, as the Hayesville, North Carolina native has earned two USA South Runner of the Week honors. 
  • Morgan Finishes Third to Pace Tornados at Charleston Classic

    Brevard College Tornados cross country standout Gavin Morgan earned a third-place finish to lead BC at the Charleston Classic, hosted by The College of Charleston on Saturday morning in Charleston, S.C.  Morgan, a sophomore hailing from Hayesville, N.C., adds to an impressive campaign that has seen him set multiple new personal bests as well as earn two selections as the USA South Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Morgan finished Saturday's race with a time of 27:03.85, which was just 35 seconds off the first-place finisher's time. 
  • Gavin Morgan Earns His Second Conference Honor of the Season

    For the second time this season, Brevard College cross country student-athlete Gavin Morgan has been selected as the USA South Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, following an impressive performance at last Friday's Queen City Invitational. Morgan, a sophomore standout from Hayesville, N.C., set his new personal record 8K time by over a minute and a half to pace the Tornados’ efforts at the event. He finished the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:28, which was a minute and 32 seconds faster than his previous personal best set at the Mike & Mary Kay Invite, hosted by Berea College. There, Morgan completed the 8k race in 28 minutes flat. 
  • Morgan PR's in 8K, Finishes 37th in Highly-Competitive Queen City Invitational

    Sophomore standout Gavin Morgan set his new personal record 8k tie by over a minute and a half as the Brevard College Tornados cross country teams competed in the Queen City Invitational on Friday, hosted by NCAA DI UNC-Charlotte.  Morgan finished the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:28, which was a minute and 32 seconds faster than his previous personal best set at the Mike & Mary Kay Invite, hosted by Berea College. There, Morgan completed the 8k race in 28 minutes flat.  The Hayesville, N.C. native's 38th-place finish came amongst a crowded men's side that featured 327 total runners that finished Friday's race. 
  • Morgan Sets 8K Personal Record at Mike & Mary Kay Invite

    Brevard College sophomore Runner Gavin Morgan set a new personal record for the 8k race by running a time of 28:00, pacing the Tornados with a 15th place finish at Berea College’s Mike & Mary K Invite in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday morning. Morgan, who just this Monday was named USA South Runner of the Week after a top-10 finish at Tusculum University’s Zaxby’s Open last weekend, clocked a 28:00 in the 8k race to lead the Tornados.
  • Gavin Morgan Claims USA South Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week Honor

    After earning a top-10 finish over the weekend at the Zaxby’s Open hosted by Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee, Brevard College sophomore standout Gavin Morgan has been selected as the USA South Conference’s Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Morgan, a native of Hayesville, N.C., bested his time from last year at the same even by nearly 30 seconds en route to the seventh-place finish in a crowded field of 52 participants. The honor marks the first USA South weekly honor under the helm of Brevard College Head Cross Country / Track & Field Coach Darryll Patrick, whose Track & Field team last Spring enjoyed success at the ECAC Championships in Connecticut.   
  • Morgan Secures Top-10 Finish as Tornados Open 2019 Season

    Sophomore Gavin Morgan earned a seventh-place finish as the Brevard College Tornados Cross Country team opened its season at the Zaxby’s Open, hosted by Tusculum University in Greenville, Tennessee.  Morgan, who bested last year’s time by nearly 30 seconds when the Tornados took part in the Zaxby’s Open, finished Friday’s 5K with a time of 17:08.7, which was good enough to earn him seventh on the men’s side.
