Tornados Drop Matches in Berea

Berea, Ky. - The Brevard College Volleyball team (0-12, 0-3) dropped a pair of USA South Conference matches in a tri-match held Saturday in Berea, Kentucky. 

The Tornados lost in straight sets to Huntingdon (9-6, 2-0) before dropping a four-setter to host Barea (2-8, 1-1).

In the first match of the afternoon for the Tornados, BC fell behind early with a 25-14 defeat in set number one.  Huntingdon then won the second set 25-9 and the third set 25-11 to take the match. Offensively, Jordan Lloyd led the Tornados with seven kills.  Hannah Gordon recorded 12 assists to go along with five digs and a service ace. Brook Groves (11 digs) and Mariana Rodriguez (8 digs) led Brevard on the defensive end in the contest.

The second match of the afternoon against Berea proved to be a competitive affair, lasting four sets.  Berea took the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18 respectively before the most exciting set of the day came in set number three.

In the third set, the two teams jostled back and forth with several tied scores before the Tornados ultimately prevailed 29-27.  Berea, however, regained the momentum in the match with a 25-16 win in set number four to take the match.

In the four-setter vs. Berea, Hannah Jenkins registered five service aces to go along with 11 kills.  Lloyd registered 31 digs to go along with 12 kills.  Gordon set up her teammates with 22 assists, while Rodriguez led the Tornados defensively with 22 digs.

The Tornados returns to action with another USA South tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  BC hosts LaGrange at 12 p.m., then will host Maryville at 4 p.m.
