Tornado Challenge comes to a conclusion at the Xcel Sportsplex

Hendersonville, N.C. - Anna Grant and the Brevard College Tornados Volleyball squad wrapped up hosting the Tornado Challenge on Saturday at the Xcel Sportsplex in Hendersonville, N.C. The Tornados played two of the seven matches that took place Saturday, falling in straight sets to William Peace before being tripped up in four sets against Pfeiffer. 

William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (13-25, 15-25, 9-25) 

The William Peace Pacers continued their strong work at the Tornado Challenge with a sweep of the hosts. William Peace (4-3) went 3-0 on the weekend, picking up victories against Greensboro, Brevard, and Pfeiffer. Brevard (0-9) lost in straight sets for the 8th consecutive match. Hannak Jenkins lead the way offensively, driving home five kills on the match. Both Jordan Lloyd and Mariana Rodriguez reached double-digit dig totals, tallying 14 and 12 respectively. Rodriguez and Brook Groves both served an ace in the match. William Peace and Brevard will face off again in a matchup at the Averett University Invitational next weekend. 

Pfeiffer 3, Brevard 1 (20-25, 25-18, 17-25, 22-25)

Despite falling short in the match, Brevard gained some confidence winning their first set of the season. The Tornados were led by very strong performances by Hannah Jenkins and Sydney Fox, who both reached double-digit kill totals in the match. Sydney Fox tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, her first of the season. Freshman Mariana Rodriguez set a new career-high mark with 17 digs.  

Tornado of the day: Brevard newcomer Hannah Gordan continued her strong start, setting a new career high with 33 total assists. This mark brings her season/career total to 129 only 9 games into the season. 

Next up: Brevard will travel to the Averett University for four matches played on next Friday and Saturday. This will be the third regular-season tournament that the Tornados have taken part in.
