Tornados Prepare for Agnes Scott

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard volleyball team takes a two-match winning streak into its final week of action, which includes a clash with Agnes Scott on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Tornados, who moved to 12-6 following a series of wins against LaGrange and Maryville on Oct. 21, have the opportunity to finish at least 14 wins in a season for the first time since 2008-09.

It marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs with Brevard earning a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) on Oct. 4. The offensive performance of Hannah Elmore (11 kills) combined with the defensive prowess of Maggie Weiss (19 digs) and Hannah Jenkins (three assisted blocks) helped the Tornados complete a three-game sweep.

Brevard, averaging 11.46 kills per set (745 kills), has four players with at least 100 kills on the season including Hannah Elmore (210), Stephanie Lambert (166), Rachel Ruble (132) and Whitney DeMoss (112). Senior setter Josie McElroy has been an integral part of the Tornados' offensive successes by handing out 620 assists (9.54 assists/set).

Maggie Weiss has anchored the Tornado defense, which has limited opponents to 10.40 kills/set, by virtue of a team-high 360 digs (5.54 digs/set). The tandem of Ruble (37 total blocks/30 assisted blocks) and DeMoss (10 solo blocks) have also been instrumental in the defensive success of the Tornados.

The host Scotties (7-20) have endured a tough stretch to the season, dropping their last seven straight contests after downing Berea 3-1 on Oct. 7.

Among the individual leaders for Agnes Scott include Paige Heck (218 kills), Resa Knott (211 kills) and Anna Tomkins (764 assists). The Scotties are led on defense by the combination of Bella Kammerer (465 digs) and Knott, who has 47 total blocks by virtue of 14 solo blocks and 33 assisted blocks.
