ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College Women's Tennis program gave back to the community while having the opportunity to experience one of the world's elite tennis events at this past weekend's Fed Cup in Asheville, N.C.

Brevard College Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Evan Schreiner along with BC Women's Tennis student-athletes Eleanor Flannery and Kelsey Kushner volunteered at a United States Tennis Association youth clinic both Saturday and Sunday, then were able to attend the Fed Cup matches between the United States and Australia at the US Cellular Center.

Coach Schreiner and the student-athletes helped facilitate a free tennis clinic hosted by USTA North Carolina at the Asheville Racquet Club-Downtown.  Over the course of two days, approximately 100 local middle school and high school students participated in the clinic, learning tennis skills in a fun, interactive atmosphere provided by tennis experts including Coach Schreiner, Flannery and Kushner.

After volunteering at the clinic each day, Coach Schreiner, Flannery and Kushner were able to attend the Fed Cup at the US Cellular Center where they witnessed some of the world's top women's tennis players compete in the USA-Australia match up.  Australia defeated USA 3-2 in the event which featured top world players such as Madison Keys, Danielle Collins, Nicole Melichar, Ashleigh Barty, Priscilla Hon and Daria Gavrilova.

2019 marked the second straight year that Asheville has hosted the Fed Cup.  It also marked the second straight year that the Brevard College tennis team has volunteered and enjoyed the opportunity to experience the world class event.
