Bowman, Spear Grab Singles Wins

DEMOREST, Ga. – Brevard teammates Hannah Spear and Mekenzie Bowman picked up two singles wins on Tuesday afternoon, but it was not enough to hold off a strong Piedmont squad that emerged with a 7-2 win in women's tennis action.

Spear claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tatiana Burkett in the battle of six seeds, while Bowman rebounded from an opening set loss to come away with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Crysalin Gloria in the clash of No. 4 seeds.

Piedmont opened the match by sweeping its way through doubles action as Maggie Moody and Caroline Connelly earned an 8-5 victory over the combination of Kelsey Kushner and Jen Cox. Durden Smith and Morgan Buchholz picked up the second Lion point with an 8-2 win against Margaret Correll and Bowman.

Tatiana Burkett and Megan Waldheim completed the sweep with an 8-1 triumph against Spear and Carmen Boone.

Smith laid claim to her second win of the day as she downed Boone in singles action by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Bucholz then secured the team win with over Kushner in the clash of No. 1 singles.

Kara Landsiedel got Piedmont back on track, after the win by Spear, by completing a 6-2, 7-5 win over Cox. The Lions earned their final win of the match when Maureen Truett came through with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Correll.

Brevard concludes the season on Saturday, April 7 when the Tornados host Berea for Senior Day. The day will also include a free tennis clinic following the match.
