BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (5-8-3, 4-4 USAS) concluded USA South Conference play on Tuesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field, as the Tornados fell to the visiting Maryville College Scots (11-4, 6-0 USAS), 2-0.

The USA South West Division-leading Scots outshot the Tornados by a tally of 25-3, including an 18-2 advantage in shots-on-goal. Brevard's Abbie Petrosky, Chloe Proffitt, and Aliyah Vaughan each took shots in the defensive-focused contest for Brevard.

Junior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas, who has been named USA South Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, logged a career-high 13 saves in Tuesday's contest.

Brevard withstood a barrage of attacking chances from the Scots through the first 40 minutes of play, as Maryville took a total of 12 unanswered shot attempts prior to the eventual game-winning goal in the 43rd minute. Just prior to the halftime intermission, Maryville's Zoe Van Hook took a Lexie Hill pass at the top of the box and beat Brevard's last line of defense one-on-one to have an open look at the goal to put the Scots on top, 1-0.

Maryville controlled the attack with a 13-0 shooting advantage at the intermission. The Scots won their lone corner kick of the evening in the first half as well.

Maryville's Taylor Frizen gave the Scots a much-needed insurance goal when the forward sent an Abbie Anderson pass soaring through the air and above the head of Rojas to extend Maryville's advantage, 2-0.

From that point on, Brevard's defense held firm, not conceding a goal for the rest of the match.

The Tornados will close out their 2019 home slate on Friday, October 25 for their Senior Day contest at 7 p.m. vs. Bob Jones at Ives-Lemel Family Field. There, seniors Audrey Cardwell and Erica Zufferey will be honored prior to the start of the match.
