Ashley Hughes & Caroline David Named to NCCSIA All-State Teams

OFFICIAL NCCSIA RELEASE

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College Women's Soccer seniors Ashley Hughes & Caroline David have been named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) 2018 College Division All-State Women's Soccer Teams.

Hughes was named to the NCCSIA College Division All-State First-Team, while David was honored as a Second-Team selection.

This announcement marks the second-straight season that Brevard College Women's Soccer has made an NCCSIA All-State team, as former Tornado Sydney Alencewicz was a first-team selection in 2017. This year marks the first time that BC Women's Soccer has garnered multiple selections.

Hughes, a senior forward from Charlotte, N.C., concluded her BC career at the top of many statistical records for Brevard. Her 19 goals in 2018 are a BC NCAA-era school record for single-season goals. Hughes finished 2018 with 41 points, which is also a BC NCAA-era single-season record. She is tied for first in BC NCAA-era history for goals scored, and second in career points.

David, a senior midfielder from Charlotte, N.C., sits alone atop both the single-season and career BC NCAA-era assist totals. David finished the 2018 regular season with 13 assists, which gave her both records by a landslide. David's 38 career points place her fourth all-time in BC NCAA-era history.

Both Hughes and David were named USA South Conference All-Division second-team selections after the conclusion of conference play. They helped lead Brevard to its first berth into the ECAC Championships.

Hughes was also named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).  The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Hughes now advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot.  The Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

Hughes and David, along with the rest of the 2018 BC Women's Soccer team, enabled the Tornados to match their highest win total in the school's NCAA-era and also record their longest win streak (five games) in BC Women's Soccer NCAA-era history this season.

A total of 22 student-athletes from twelve different North Carolina schools were named to the first and second teams.

Nominations were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, softball, and baseball.
