  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Brevard College Athletics Wraps Up 2019-20 Year, Hosts BESPYs Awards Virtually

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics hosted its annual Athletic Awards – “The BESPYs” – virtually for the first time ever on the evening of Wednesday, April 29 via its social media platforms of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The event is traditionally held in an in-person banquet-style format at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the campus of Brevard College. Due to classes now being held online, the event moved to an interactive online format, as traditional award winners were announced through a variety of graphic and video messages on the BC Athletics social media channels. This year’s BESPYs included special video messages from Director of Athletics Myranda Nash, BC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board (Brittany Franks, Josh Romero, Ali Grace Hartman, Mari Cook, Kelly Wilkins, and Anna Burnette), USA South Conference Commissioner Dr. Tom Hart, BC Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Stephen Knott, the BC Head Coaching Staff, and Brevard President Dr. David Joyce and Lynne Joyce.

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics has announced that the 12th Annual BC Tornados Open will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at Lake Toxaway Country Club in Toxaway, North Carolina.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Brevard Concludes Season with Victory on Senior Day

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (9-15) concluded the 2019-20 season with a 56-52 victory over Pfeiffer (11-14) on Saturday afternoon’s Senior Day at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Point guard Ty’She Washington led all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds en route to a double-double.  Washington scored 10 of her 22 points in the decisive fourth quarter as she went 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the final stanza.  In total for the contest, the Charlotte, North Carolina native shot 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-4 from three-point range. Junior forward Destiny Williams also scored in double figures with a 14-point performance that also included seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Seniors Krysta Davis and Elaina Perez were both honored in a pre-game ceremony before productive final games in a Tornado uniform.  Davis played 28 minutes, pulling down nine rebounds to go along with two points and an assist.  Perez matched her career-high with five rebounds while scoring four points and delivering two assists.
  • BC Falls to Piedmont in Penultimate Game of Season

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (8-15, 5-11 USAS) fell 76-48 on to visiting Piedmont (16-8, 12-3 USAS) on Wednesday night in the penultimate game of the 2019-20 season for the Tornados. Brevard was led by junior forward Destiny Williams who recorded team-highs with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Senior center Krysta Davis added eight points, while point guard Ty’She Washington added seven.  Center Avery Lockwood came off the bench to score seven points to go along with five rebounds. Piedmont’s offensive production came mostly from Nakiyah Washington (20 pts) and Kyla Michienzi (17 pts) with Amari Price facilitating the scorers with eight assists.
  • Women’s Basketball Set for Play4Kay Game on Wednesday

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (8-14, 5-10 USAS) will join countless other schools across the nation by hosting its annual Play4Kay game on Wednesday against Piedmont College (15-8, 11-3 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Play4Kay initiative honors Coach Kay Yow and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The vision for Play4Kay came directly from Coach Kay Yow. Through Play4Kay, she saw a vision to bring communities together and honor survivors in the fight against all cancers affecting women. It was basically a simple idea — take a game in your schedule and use it to fundraise for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. As Play4Kay evolved, the mechanisms for fundraising have expanded and so have the initiatives. Schools nationwide are finding ways to “Play4Kay” on and off the basketball court. In support of the Play4Kay initiative, pink BC Play4Kay t-shirts will be available for purchase at the ticket gate before Wednesday’s matchup.
  • Tornados Drop Heartbreaker in Defensive Struggle on Lookout Mountain

    The Brevard College Women’s Basketball team (8-14, 5-10 USAS) fell 46-44 in a tightly contested USA South Conference matchup at Covenant (9-14, 6-8) on Saturday evening in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The start of the contest was delayed three hours due to weather and road conditions as the Tornados wrapped up a two-game conference road trip with a split at Agnes Scott and Covenant. Brevard was led by junior forward Destiny Williams who registered nine points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Point guard Ty’She Washington scored eight points with a team-high four assists.  Junior Taryn Ledford hit two three-pointers en route to eight points.
  • Women’s Basketball Prepares for Final Road Trip of Season

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (7-13, 4-9 USAS) gets set to embark on its final road trip of the 2019-20 season as the Tornados travel to the state of Georgia for consecutive USA South Conference contests this weekend.  The Tornados first face Agnes Scott College (0-22, 0-13 USAS) on Friday, February 7 at 6 p.m. in Decatur, Georgia before heading up to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to battle Covenant College (8-13, 5-7 USAS) on Saturday, February 8 for a 2 p.m. tip-off time.  Fans can follow along with both contests with live statistics and video by clicking here.  Brevard enters this weekend’s contests coming off of back-to-back victories to begin the month of February. The Tornados defeated LaGrange College last Saturday, February 1, 65-54, before defeating Bob Jones University, 54-39, this past Tuesday to complete a season sweep. 
  • Tornados Escape Scotties, Win Third-Straight Game

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (8-13, 5-9 USAS) escaped Decatur, Georgia with a 51-41 victory over the Agnes Scott Scotties (0-23, 0-14 USAS) on Friday evening.  Agnes Scott took part in the USA South Conference’s #BlockOutCancer program, a conference-wide initiative honoring Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Randy Tuggle and his fight against pancreatic cancer. Both teams joined at center court for a photo pregame to honor Tuggle and the #BlockOutCancer program.  Ty’She Washington led the way for Brevard with 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. The junior point guard from Charlotte, North Carolina drilled a team-high five field goals en route to her 13-point performance. Destiny Williams joined Washington in double-figures with 12 points, while securing a team-high eight rebounds and four steals, while Deja Riddick put up eight points and five boards. Junior guard Shakirah Thompson swiped three steals in the contest to go along with five points. 
  • Tornados Seek Season Sweep over Bruins on Tuesday

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (6-13) will look to continue its winning ways when the Tornados travel down to Greenville, South Carolina to face off against the Bob Jones University Bruins (10-9) for the second time this season. Updates will be posted when they become available on the Brevard College Tornados Twitter account @BCTornados.  The Tornados took a 64-57 decision back on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, against the Bruins at the Boshamer Gymnasium in the early portion of the 2019-20 schedule. Junior guard Shakirah Thompson led the way with a career night, scoring 19 points with five 3-pointers in the victory.  Three BC players were able to reach double-figure scoring totals, as Thompson was joined by Deja Riddick (13 points) and Taryn Ledford (10 points). Sophomore forward Breana Ware led all players with a game-high 10 rebounds, which also set the Greensboro, North Carolina native's new career-best total.
  • Balanced Tornados Take 54-39 Victory against Bob Jones

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (7-13) led wire-to-wire en route to a 54-39 victory over Bob Jones University (10-10), as the Tornados clinched a season sweep over the host Bruins on Tuesday evening in Greenville, South Carolina. Ty’She Washington led all Tornado scorers with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. The junior from Charlotte, North Carolina hit a pair of free throws and drained a 3-pointer in Tuesday’s matchup.  Junior forwards Deja Riddick and Destiny Williams each scored seven points and grabbed three rebounds, while Victoria Green and Shakirah Thompson each hit a pair of 3-pointers to total six points apiece. Thompson grabbed a team-best five rebounds in the contest as well. 
  • Brevard Prepares for Trip to LaGrange

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-13, 3-9 USAS) is set to travel to LaGrange, Georgia for a USA South matchup on Saturday against LaGrange College (12-6, 6-4 USAS) at 2 p.m. Fans can follow along with live video and stats here, courtesy of LaGrange.  The Tornados will look to avenge an early-season setback at the hands of the Panthers. LaGrange claimed a 61-47 victory back on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 
  • Tornados Down Panthers in LaGrange, 65-54

    Four Tornados scored in double figures as the Brevard College women’s basketball team (6-13, 4-9 USAS) picked up a USA South Conference road victory, 65-54, over the LaGrange Panthers (12-7, 6-5 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.  The victory avenged an early-season setback to the Panthers on November 29, 2019, at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Juniors Taryn Ledford and Destiny Williams each led the Tornado offense with 13 points apiece. Ledford came off the bench to make 5-of-10 shots from the field including three made 3-pointers. Williams stuffed the stat sheet with a near double-double effort of 13 points and nine rebounds while dishing out three assists and recording two steals. 
  • Tornados Drop USA South Contest to Covenant

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-13, 3-9 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference contest to visiting Covenant (7-12, 4-6 USAS), 64-55, on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The game was part of the “Black Out for Black Mamba” tribute in memory of NBA legend Kobe Bryant at the women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader at Brevard College. Bryant and the other victims of a tragic accident in California were remembered with a moment of silence before each game and by the BC Basketball community wearing the color black. Junior forward Destiny Williams led Brevard with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senior center Krysta Davis also scored 11 points to go along with six rebounds.  Ty’She Washington pulled down 10 rebounds while producing seven points. 
  • Tornado Basketball Hosts “Black Out for Black Mamba” on Tuesday at The Bosh

    The Brevard College men’s and women’s basketball teams are geared up to host the final home doubleheader of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The women’s squad (5-12, 3-8 USAS) plays host to Covenant College (6-12, 3-6 USAS) in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off, while BC’s men’s team (4-14, 3-8 USAS) faces off against the Maryville College Scots (4-12, 3-6 USAS). The Tornados and Scots will tip-off at approximately 7:30 p.m., or at least 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s contest. Brevard Basketball will host “Black Out for Black Mamba” during Tuesday’s doubleheader. Fans are encouraged to wear black in memory of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was involved in a tragic and heartbreaking incident on Sunday in southern California. Bryant, who played 20 years for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be honored in a moment of silence prior to both the men’s and women’s games. As part of the promotion, special edition Brevard College Basketball t-shirts will be given away to fans and students in attendance. Brevard College Athletics will also welcome the Special Olympics of Transylvania County to Tuesday’s doubleheader.
  • Brevard Drops Nail-Biter to Huntingdon at the Bosh

    The Brevard College Women’s Basketball team (5-12, 3-8 USAS) lost in a 53-51 nail-biter to USA South Conference rival Huntingdon (9-10, 8-2 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The back-and-forth affair, which came down to a last season opportunity for the Tornados, featured ten tied scores and six lead changes.
  • Tornados Set for Mid-Week Clash with Lions in Demorest

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-10, 3-6 USAS) heads on the road this evening for a USA South Conference matchup with the defending conference champion Piedmont College Lions (10-8, 6-3 USAS) at 6 p.m. in Demorest, Georgia.  Live stats and live video will be provided here, courtesy of Piedmont College.  Brevard comes into Wednesday’s contest following consecutive close home defeats last week to quality USA South West Division opponents. BC fell narrowly, 68-66, to Maryville College on January 14 before falling to Berea College (9-0 in conference play), 64-53 last Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 
  • Washington has Career Night as Piedmont Pulls Away Late

    In just her second game of the 2019-20 season, junior point guard Ty’She Washington exploded onto the scene by scoring a career-high 24 points, but the Brevard College women’s basketball team’s late comeback attempt came up just short as the Tornados (5-11, 3-7 USAS) fell 67-58 to the Piedmont College Lions (11-8, 7-3 USAS) on Wednesday evening at the Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia. Washington posted her 24-point outing via a highly efficient 9-of-11 shooting performance from the field. The Charlotte, North Carolina native made 4-of-5 shots from distance and added a pair of free throws in addition to grabbing three rebounds and swiping a team-best three steals on the defensive side of the floor. Junior forward Deja Riddick tallied her second-straight and fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds while distributing a team-best five assists on the evening. Senior center Krysta Davis rounded out Brevard’s three double-digit scorers with 11 points of her own, while Destiny Williams added seven points and eight rebounds. All told, the quartet of Davis, Riddick, Washington, and Williams scored 53 of Brevard’s 58 points on the night.
  • Riddick Posts Double-Double in Defeat to Berea at The Bosh

    Deja Riddick recorded her third double-double of the 2019-20 season (15 points, 10 rebounds), however, the Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-10, 3-6 USAS) fell by a final of 64-53 to the visiting Berea College Mountaineers (15-2, 8-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. With the victory, the Mountaineers remained a perfect 8-0 in USA South Conference play and earned the season sweep over the Tornados. Berea currently leads the USA South West Division. Riddick, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, made 5-of-8 field goals including a 2-of-3 clip from 3-point range. The junior forward also hauled down three of Brevard’s 11 offensive boards in Saturday’s contest. Junior guard Shakirah Thompson joined Riddick in double figures, scoring 13 points that included a team-best three made shots from long distance. Thompson has now made a team-best 40 3-pointers in 2019-20 and has reached double-digit scoring in eight total games, including four-in-a-row.
  • Women’s Basketball Set to Host Maryville

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-8, 3-4 USAS) returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Tornados face Maryville College (11-4, 4-2 USAS) at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Tuesday’s contest marks Brevard women’s basketball’s Sickle Cell Awareness promotion. Live video stream and statistics will be available by clicking here.  The Tornados are coming off of their first back-to-back victories of the 2019-20 season, as Brevard has consecutively defeated Agnes Scott College and Wesleyan College. In Brevard’s last game action, the Tornados set a new school record with 73 team rebounds, while junior forward Destiny Williams grabbed a school-record 21 boards in a 65-56 overtime victory at Wesleyan.
  • BC Comes Up Just Short in Thriller vs. Maryville

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-9, 3-5 USAS) came up just short in the final seconds in a 68-66 defeat to USA South Conference foe Maryville (12-4, 5-2 USAS) on Tuesday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Trailing by two points with 4.1 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter, the Tornados had the ball and a chance to either tie or win the game in regulation.  Junior Destiny Williams was able to get a clean look on a three-point attempt, however, the potential game-winner rimmed out as the visiting Scots escaped with the narrow victory. Williams registered 13 points, going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line while also pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.  Williams also swiped a team-best four steals to go along with three blocks and three assists.
  • Tornados Haul Down School-Record 73 Rebounds in Gritty Overtime Win Over Wolves

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-8, 3-4 USAS) used a 15-6 run in overtime to pull out a 65-56 victory over Wesleyan College (0-14) on Friday evening at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, Georgia.  The win was highlighted by Brevard’s impressive work on the glass. The Tornados secured a school-record 73 rebounds, trumping the previous single-game mark set on February 17, 2018, against Pfeiffer (56 rebounds). Junior forward Destiny Williams led Brevard’s record-breaking rebounding effort by grabbing a career-high 21 boards, which set the new BC women’s basketball single-game record for rebounds. Williams’ 21-rebound total supplanted the previous record held by Samantha Winn who recorded 19 boards on January 12, 2009. Williams added a near triple-double effort to her record-breaking rebounding total, scoring 12 points while dishing out a game-high seven assists. The Aiken, South Carolina native also tallied four steals and two blocks on the evening. 
  • Women’s Basketball Travels to Wesleyan on Friday

    Just under 48 hours removed from defeating Agnes Scott College at home at the Boshamer Gymnasium, 66-44, the Brevard College women’s basketball team (4-8, 2-4 USAS) will head back on the road to face the Wesleyan College Wolves (0-13, 0-5 USAS) on Friday evening at 6 p.m.
  • Thompson Drills Seven 3-Pointers to Lead Tornados to USA South Win over Agnes Scott

    Junior Shakirah Thompson scored a career-high 21 points on a career-best seven made three-pointers to lead the Brevard College women’s basketball team (4-8, 2-4 USAS) to a 66-44 victory over USA South Conference opponent Agnes Scott (0-13, 0-4 USAS) on Wednesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Thompson’s seven three-pointers were the second most made three’s in a single-game in school history.  The Atlanta native was just one three-pointer shy of the school record eight three-pointers made held by Annalee Bollinger (Nov. 29, 2017). Thompson shot 7-of-13 from beyond the arc en route to her career-high performance.  The previous career-high for the junior guard was 19 points in a win over Bob Jones on November 19 earlier this season.
  • Tornados Look to Bounce Back Against Scotties at Home

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (3-8, 1-4 USAS) will be looking to get back in the win column when it takes on the Agnes Scott College Scotties (0-12, 0-3 USAS) on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. within the confines of the Boshamer Gymnasium. The Tornados will be playing in their first contest at home since December 7, 2019. Wednesday night’s matchup marks Brevard College’s Boys & Girls Club Night promotion, where BC is thrilled to welcome the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County to The Bosh for a fun-filled night. The mission of The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club is a positive place for kids and impacts the life of every young person it serves.
  • Career Day for Riddick as BC Falls to Hawks

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (3-8, 1-4 USAS) fell to host Huntingdon (5-8, 5-0 USAS) 89-56 on Saturday afternoon in the teams’ first USA South Conference contest of the 2020 calendar year. Brevard College’s Deja Riddick led all scorers with a career-high 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and an outstanding 11-of-13 (85%) shooting from the free-throw line.  The 11 made free throws and 13 free throw attempts were also career bests for the native of Norfolk, Virginia. Riddick’s career-high 23 points marked the third time this season that the junior forward has scored 20-plus points.  Riddick scored 22 points in her previous career-high vs. Toccoa Falls in the season-opener on November 12 and posted 21 points at Maryville on December 4.
  • Brevard Returns to Regular Season Action on Saturday in Alabama

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (3-7, 1-3 USAS) will return to regular season and USA South Conference play after competing in two-consecutive exhibition matches, as the Tornados travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take on conference foe Huntingdon College (4-8, 4-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT Brevard is returning to countable action following exhibition tune-ups against NCAA DI institutions Presbyterian College and Wofford College. The Tornados are off to a 1-3 start in conference play, while Huntingdon has begun the conference portion of its schedule with an unblemished 4-0 record. 
  • Tornados Compete Against Terriers in Exhibition

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (3-7) hung with NCAA DI Wofford College (7-8) through the first quarter of play before eventually falling by a final score of 82-34 in an exhibition contest on Thursday afternoon at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.  The contest did not count towards Brevard’s overall record, while the Terriers counted the contest and improved to a 7-8 record.  Junior guard Shakirah Thompson led all BC scorers with 11 points that included three made 3-pointers. Junior forward Destiny Williams added 10 points, five rebounds, and a team-high two blocked shots. Senior center Krysta Davis scored six points and hauled down a team-best five rebounds.
