Avery Lockwood Named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week

BREVARD, N.C. – The USA South Conference announced that freshman center Avery Lockwood has been named USA South Rookie of the Week for the week ending on December 2. The announcement marks the first-ever USA South regular season accolade for the Tornados Women's Basketball team.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Avery Lockwood, Brevard - The Foxworth, Mississippi freshman center controlled the boards as she averaged 12.3 rebounds to go along with 5.3 points, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game in a 3-0 week for the Tornados. In 72-45 win over Toccoa Falls, Lockwood scored six points with 14 rebounds, a career-high three steals, two assists, and one block. In a 64-57 win over Bob Jones, Lockwood totaled six points, eight rebounds, and one steal. Finally, in an 84-30 victory over USA South foe Wesleyan, Lockwood posted four points, a career-high 15 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.

Lockwood currently ranks fourth in the USA South Conference, averaging 9.7 rebounds per game. Per 40 minutes, Lockwood's rebounding total jumps to a conference-leading 21.5 rebounds per contest.

Lockwood and the rest of the 2018-19 Tornados Women's Basketball team (5-1, 1-0 USAS) are back in action as they host Maryville College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
