Brevard Falls on the Road to Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- In the first of three games in seven days scheduled between these two teams, Pfeiffer took round one against Brevard 69-65 on Saturday afternoon.

Destiny Williams finished with a double-double and led Brevard in scoring with 14 points, sinking four field goals and shooting 6-of-9 at the free throw line. Fellow freshman Ty'She Washington also notched a double-double, scoring 13 points on 5-of-13 from the floor and hauled in a team-high 13 rebounds.

Brevard (11-12) shot 20-of-65 (30.8%) from the floor and outrebounded Pfeiffer (59-44), but the Tornados turned the ball over 24 times compared to just 13 for the Falcons in the loss. Pfieffer (19-3) was able to score 24 points off turnovers and made 12 more free throws than Brevard over the course of the game.

The Falcons led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter before the Tornados stormed back on an 11-0 run, as a Shakirah Thompson trey cut the lead to one point with 2:45 to go in the game. Pfeiffer responded with four unanswered points to build on their lead with 19 seconds to go. That short run was answered by Kelsie Rhyne who knocked down a 3-pointer with four seconds to go to make the score 67-65, but Brevard was unable to force a turnover in the waning seconds to tie or take the lead.

After falling behind by 13 points late in the first quarter, Brevard dominated the second quarter as the team outscored Pfeiffer 20-14 in the frame. Washington led the Tornados in the first half with nine points, highlighted by two 3-pointers and Brevard trailed by just three points at the halftime break.

Brevard will return to Boshamer Gymnasium on Feb. 23rd to take on Pfeiffer once again, tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
