LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Emma Grimes scored 16 points, all in the fourth quarter, to help lead Covenant to a 77-66 victory over Brevard in Saturday afternoon women's basketball action.

Grimes, who reached double figures by converting three 3-pointers and seven free throws, placed herself alongside Jessica Bell for the team-high in points (16). Bell and Grimes were two of six Covenant (3-3) players to reach the double figure mark, along with Raquel Rose, Joanna Smith and Bekah Walter, who finished with 12 points apiece.

Bell, who finished 7-of-11 from the floor, led the way for a Scots unit that finished 27-of-55 (49.1%) from the floor, 6-of-15 (40%) from beyond the arc and 17-of-26 (65.4%) from the free throw line.

Brevard was in scoring by the trio of Annalee Bollinger (19), Ty'She Washington (16) and Kelsie Rhyne (13), which combined to go 11-of-11 at the free throw line. That combination led the way for a Tornado unit that capped off the game by hitting 23-of-61 from the floor, 8-of-27 from 3-point range and 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the free throw line.

Bollinger led all scorers by hitting 5-of-18 from the floor and 3-of-10 from 3-point range, as she was a perfect 6-of-6 at the charity stripe. Washington, who also came through with a team-best seven boards, was 7-of-14 on the contest. Rhyne eclipsed double figures by knocking down four field goals, including a pair from 3-point range, and all three free throw attempts.

Seven points by Bollinger and three from Rhyne, along with a solid defensive effort, allowed Brevard to move within one, 39-38, inside the first four minutes of the third quarter. Bell retaliated with four points of her own, giving the Scots a five-point cushion, but a layup by Destiny Williams along with a 3-pointer by Deja Riddick kept Brevard within striking distance, 47-44, with just under three minutes remaining.

Washington joined in on the offense, adding a layup, while Bollinger drove home four free throws as the Tornados moved within one, 51-50, at the close of the third quarter.

Washington added the first bucket of the fourth quarter, giving Brevard a slim one-point lead, but Grimes took over with a 3-pointer to put the Scots back in front. The two teams traded a layup and a 3-pointer, moving the Tornados to within one, but it was six unanswered by Grimes that gave Covenant a 62-55 advantage.

Bollinger and Williams combined for the next five Brevard points, but it was the combination of Smith and Bell that provided the Scots with a 68-62 advantage. Grimes scored seven of the final nine points, while Washington and Williams came through with four for the Tornados, to help provide the 11-point victory.

With a seven-point advantage after one quarter, Covenant's defensive pressure in combination with six points from Bell allowed the Scots to move in front 24-13 with 5:47 left in the second. The Tornados answered by scoring eight straight, capitalizing on 3-pointers by Rhyne and Bollinger in the process, as they trimmed the deficit to three.

Covenant surrendered just one score, a layup by Rhyne, over a 2:08 stretch as it again built a seven-point lead, 30-23. The Tornados closed out the half with three points from Rhyne, allowing a layup by Bell, as they closed the margin to six at the intermission.

Washington scored four points and Bollinger added three as the Tornados assumed a 7-6 advantage at just over the halfway mark of the first quarter. Covenant answered with five points from Walter and a layup by Smith as it built a six point lead at the 3:04 mark. Washington countered with back-to-back buckets, but Covenant assumed an 18-11 lead through the first 10 minutes.
