  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Spring Senior Profile: Micayla McCoy #ThankYouSeniors

    Senior pitcher Micayla McCoy, a member of the Brevard College Softball team for two seasons, is the next honoree in BC Athletics’ Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. McCoy, a native of Cullowhee, North Carolina, and a graduate of Smoky Mountain High School while formerly attending Georgia Highlands College, will graduate from Brevard with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Following graduation from BC, McCoy plans to pursue a career as a personal trainer and coaching.

  • Jordan Kielson Sweeps Final USA Pitcher of the Week Awards for 2020

    Redshirt freshman pitcher Jordan Kielson claimed the final USA South Weekly Pitching Awards of the 2020 season following an impressive showing last week at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Kielson, a Canton, North Carolina native, swept the pitching awards by earning both the USA South Softball Pitcher of the Week and Rookie Pitcher of the Week awards in the final week of these honors for the 2020 season.  The Tornado newcomer earned a 3-0 record last week with a 0.78 ERA for in three appearances, all starts, for the Tornados. In 18.0 total innings pitched, Kielson allowed two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. She earned wins over Iowa Wesleyan, Penn St.-Harrisburg and Penn College.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Tornados Win Extra-Inning Thriller and Dominate Wells to Close Out Successful Spring Break

    The Brevard College softball team (9-5) ended its stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Break Classic by sweeping competition on Thursday. The Tornados earned a thrilling victory in extra innings against The Pennsylvania College of Technology (3-4), claiming a 3-0 decision in eight innings before dominating Wells College (0-8), 12-3, in a five-inning run-rule contest. Standout freshman pitcher Jordan Kielson three a one-hitter for the Tornados, earning her fifth win as a starter while throwing a complete game. Junior infielder Emily White pushed BC over the top with a go-ahead, two-RBI double in the top of the eighth inning.  BC’s offense exploded for 12 runs in game number two, including a seven-run second inning that helped the Tornados close out Spring Break in style. 
  • Tornados Dominate Day Three of Spring Break Tourney, Extend Win Streak to Five Games

    The Brevard College softball team (7-5) extended its spring break winning streak to five games, claiming victories over Penn State Harrisburg and Albertus Magnus on Tuesday afternoon at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Tornados used a big five-run sixth inning to thump the Nittany Lions, 10-3, while freshman Alyssa Flynn won her third-consecutive start in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Falcons.
  • Tornados Sweep Two on Second Day in Myrtle Beach

    The Brevard College Softball team (5-5) swept its two opponents on Monday in day two of the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.  The Tornados defeated Lancaster Bible (0-2) by the score of 3-1 followed by a 3-2 victory over Iowa Wesleyan (2-2) to complete the day two sweep.
  • Tornados Split First Two Games in Myrtle Beach

    The Brevard College softball team (3-5) split its first two games at the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic on Sunday at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.  The Tornados defeated the University of St. Joseph (0-3) 7-4 following a 2-1 loss to Gettysburg (2-1). Freshman pitcher Alyssa Flynn (1-0) earned her first collegiate win, while sophomore Ali Grace Hartman had a big day both in the circle and at the plate as the Tornados defeated St. Joseph (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon. Hartman earned the save after pitching 2.2 shutout innings allowing just two hits.  At the plate, the native of Lawndale, North Carolina went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s. Sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Folkers also had a big day at the plate and on the base paths, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Tornado Softball Hosts Cougars for Youth Day on Saturday

    The Brevard College softball team (2-2) returns to action at home on Saturday when the Tornados host Averett University (1-1) for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m.  BC will be looking to build off its success against Converse College on Thursday where the Tornados split a doubleheader against their NCAA DII opponent, taking an 8-1 victory in the backend of the twin billing.  Saturday marks the Youth Day promotion for the BC softball team.   • Tornados Drop Two at Home vs. Averett

    The Brevard College Softball team (2-4) dropped both games of a home doubleheader vs. Averett University (3-1) on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The Tornados held a 1-0 lead through three innings of game one and trailed 3-2 after five innings of game two, yet ultimately came up short in both contests against a highly regarded Averett club.  The Cougars were picked second in the USA South Conference Division coaches poll with two first-place votes.
  • Offense Catches Fire as Kielson Tosses Complete Game in Doubleheader Split

    Freshman pitcher Jordan Kielson threw a complete game as the Brevard College softball team (2-2) used a big offensive surge in the sixth inning of the second game to earn a doubleheader split against NCAA DII Converse College (3-13) on a chilly Thursday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The doubleheader, originally scheduled to be played in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was considered a home matchup for Converse played on the Brevard College campus. Kielson (2-0) pitched the entirety of the second game, allowing just three-hit and an unearned run while striking out three batters. The Canton, North Carolina native also assisted on a whopping nine defensive putouts.
  • Brevard vs. Converse Moved to Ives-Lemel Family Field on Thursday at 2 & 4 PM

    Due to field conditions as a result of inclement weather in the Spartanburg, South Carolina area this week, Brevard College Softball's doubleheader against Converse College has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 27 and has been moved to Ives-Lemel Family Field on the campus of Brevard College. The now home contest for the Tornados will take place at 2 and 4 p.m. 
  • Spirit Invitational at Salem College Canceled Due to Weather

    Due to inclement weather in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area and field flooding, Salem College's Spirit Invitational has been canceled. The softball tournament was originally slated for this Saturday and Sunday, as BC was set to square off in four total games.  Stay tuned to bctornados.com and the official social media channels of Brevard College Tornados Athletics for future schedule change information.  The Tornados are slated to return to game action on Tuesday, February 25 when Brevard travels to Spartanburg, South Carolina to face Converse College in a doubleheader scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. BC returns home on Saturday, February 29 for a 3 and 5 p.m. doubleheader at Ives-Lemel Family Field against Averett University. The Brevard College Softball team will be hosting Youth Day during the contests. 
  • Tornados Ready for Season-Opener at Home vs. Bluefield College

    The Brevard College softball team, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Robyn Rohr, is set to open its 2020 season on Wednesday within the confines of Ives-Lemel Family Field as the Tornados play host to NAIA member-institute Bluefield College. The Tornados and Rams are scheduled to take part in a season-opening doubleheader scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. Live statistics will be available here for both contests, and live video (DISCLAIMER: Weather Pending) will be available on the Official Brevard College Athletics YouTube Channel. The Tornados prepared for their season-opener with an exhibition doubleheader last Sunday against Cleveland Community College.   • Brevard Splits with Bluefield to Open 2020, Rohr Earns First Victory as Tornado Head Coach

    Redshirt freshman Jordan Kielson earned her first victory in the pitching circle for the Brevard College Softball team (1-1) as the Tornados split a season-opening doubleheader against Bluefield College (1-1) on a rainy, overcast Wednesday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The victory marked the first for first-year Head Coach Robyn Rohr at the helm of the Brevard College softball program.  Bluefield managed to take the first contest by a final of 8-4. BC senior Micayla McCoy started for the Tornados and highlighted Brevard’s offense with a three-run homer down the left-field line. Kielson got the starting nod in game two, pitching five innings of one-run, three-hit ball while striking out three batters for her first win. The Canton, North Carolina native made waves at the plate as well, drilling a three-run homer to put the Tornados up for good in their 5-1 victory. 
  • Softball Picked to Finish Seventh in West Division

    The Brevard College softball team has been selected to finish seventh in the annual USA South Conference Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Maryville College and defending USA South Tournament champion Piedmont College were picked tied atop the West Division with 60 points each. Piedmont was given a total of five first-place votes, with Maryville earning the four remaining first-place votes. Huntingdon College was picked third with 51 votes in the West Division, while LaGrange College (fourth place, 39 points) and Covenant College (fifth place, 30 points) followed suit. Wesleyan College finished just ahead of Brevard in the sixth slot with 28 points, while Agnes Scott College (eighth place, 16 points) and Berea College (ninth, 13 points) rounded out the western half of the USA South.
