OFFICIAL USA SOUTH RELEASE

BREVARD, N.C. - The USA South Conference has released its 2019 Softball All-Conference and Division teams, tabbing three Brevard College student-athletes to the USA South Softball Division teams.

Sophomores Emily White and Mari Cook were announced as First Team West Division selections, while junior Micayla McCoy earned a Second Team West Division nod.

Brevard, along with Pfeiffer University, is eligible this season for weekly and postseason awards amidst transition into the NCAA DIII ranks. These three announcements mark the first time that BC Softball student-athletes have received postseason honors from their new conference.

White, a sophomore third baseman from Shelby, N.C., finished 2019 with a team-leading .400 batting average. White posted a team-high 48 hits on 120 at-bats, scoring 25 runs while driving in a team-leading 29 RBIs. White hit six doubles, seven triples, and one home run while drawing nine walks. The Shelby, N.C. native only struck out two times in 2019, and has only gone down three times on strikes in her two-year Tornado career.

Cook, a sophomore first baseman/designated player from Beaufort, S.C., hit for a .330 average in her first season as a BC Tornado. Cook collected 34 hits in 103 at-bats. She drew a team-best 23 walks while driving in 22 RBIs and scoring 14 runs. Cook hit five doubles, one triple, and a homer.

McCoy, a junior right-handed pitcher from Sylva, N.C., enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Tornados both in the pitching circle and the batter's box.

McCoy closed out the 2019 season with a team-best 10 victories and two saves in 27 total appearances. McCoy started 24 total games for the Tornados in the circle this year, logging 138 innings pitched. The junior struck out a total of 81 batters while only allowing 21 walks, and had a 3.45 ERA in 2019.

McCoy also hit for a .364 average, which ranked second on the team amongst qualified batters. The junior tallied 32 hits on 88 at-bats while scoring 14 runs and driving in 23 RBIs. McCoy hit five doubles, four triples, and two home runs while drawing 11 walks.

The three selections helped the Tornados reach 17 wins for the season, the program's highest win total since the 2015-16 campaign.
