WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Madison Altman won the women's competition and Dawson Jacobs placed second on the men's side to lead the Brevard College Climbing team in a strong showing at the Wake Forest Collegiate Climbing Competition held Saturday in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Altman, a freshman from Newman, Georgia, won in just her second collegiate competition of her career.  Last month in her collegiate debut, Altman finished second at the Brevard College Fall Competition at the Brevard Rock Gym.

Altman was nearly flawless on Saturday at Wake Forest, finishing off four of her five climbs in just one attempt.  The only climb that she wasn't perfect on, she completed in just two attempts.  It all added up to the top score of 12,800 points in the competition that featured 16 climbers, including many from Duke and host Wake Forest.

Danielle Brown also competed for Brevard on the women's side, placing eighth with a score of 9,500 points.

In the men's competition, Dawson Jacobs placed second with 19,000 points.  His total was just 400 shy of the event's winner Jonathan Plesser of Duke.  Jacobs completed two of his five challenging climbs in one attempt.

Brevard's Benjamin Mooney and Duncan McWilliam-Grench also placed in the top ten in the field of 20 climbers.  Mooney finished eighth with a score of 11,300 points, while McWilliam-Grench placed 10th with 11,300 points.

BC's Phillip Angell (11,200 pts) placed 11th and Taylor Everard (11,000 pts) finished 12th to Brevard a total of five climbers in the top 12.  In addition, Sam Willis (8,600 pts) finished 15th.
