Rock Climbing Heads to Nashville for USAC Regional Championship

BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard Rock Climbing team will compete in its second USA Climbing Collegiate Appalachian Regional Championship on March 24 at the Crag Gym in Nashville, Tenn.

The BC Crushers have enjoyed success in their second season as a varsity program, as sophomore Caroline Safford placed in the top five in the women's bouldering competition at the Rock and Rumble Competition in Cullowhee on Feb. 17, and freshman Matthew Stephens and senior Jordan Haak have placed within the top 15 in their respective events throughout the season.

Brevard will join eight schools from across the region, which include UNC, Davidson, Middle Tennessee State, Lees-McRae, Duke, Chatttanooga, Wake Forest and Western Carolina for the regional championship.

Climbing coach Travis Gray says this event will be a culmination of the work the team has put in since the beginning of the season.

"This competition will be a result of seven months of hard work, which truly shows the caliber of athletes on this team and mental capacity that our climbers have towards being successful," says Gray. "We are excited to see what happens and hope for a fun and successful event."

The event will consist of speed, sport climbing and bouldering competitions.
