  • Broska and Ray Selected as 2020 Division III ITA Scholar-Athletes

    Rising sophomore student-athletes Troy Broska and Jackson Ray were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), garnering selections as ITA Scholar-Athletes. The announcement comes following a successful freshman campaign for the pair of Tornados, who were the two two performers in singles victories on the 2019-20 team – with Broska carrying four wins and Ray earning three victories. 
  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Men's & Women's Tennis Matches Canceled vs. Colorado College & Berea College

    Due to action at both Colorado College and Berea College in response to COVID-19, Brevard men's and women's tennis will not face Colorado College as originally scheduled on Friday in Orlando. Furthermore, the Tornados' originally scheduled home matches against Berea on Sunday have also been canceled.  For up-to-date news and information about schedule changes in Brevard College Athletics related to COVID-19, please stay tuned to bctornados.com and the Brevard College Athletics social media outlets.   • Brevard Shut Out by St. Francis in Orlando

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team (3-6) concluded its competition in the Spring Break Sports Tournament by falling 9-0 to The University of St. Francis (Indiana) on Thursday afternoon at the Lake Cane Tennis Complex in Orlando, Florida.  The Tornados battled, falling in a tight number-one doubles match, 8-6, while number-one singles player Ethan McGee fell 6-7, 3-6 in a toughly-played singles match in which McGee forced a tiebreaker in the first set.  Jackson Ray competed in the two-slot for the Tornados, dropping a close 4-6 first set before bowing out in the match’s second set. 
  • Jackson Ray’s Thrilling Singles Result Clinches 5-4 Win in Orlando

    Freshman captain Jackson Ray claimed a pivotal three-set victory in number-two singles to help push the Brevard College men’s tennis team (3-5) to a 5-4 team victory over Wabash College (0-12) on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Training Center in Orlando, Florida.  Brevard won the number-three doubles match before reeling off four singles victories to complete the comeback victory over the Little Giants of Wabash.  The doubles tandem of Miles Schafer and Brysen Hall cruised to an 8-1 victory in the third doubles match, 8-1, over Wabash’s Gerald Randle and Diego Rocca Torres.
  • Doubles Wins Push Men’s Tennis to 6-3 Triumph Over Curry

    A pair of key doubles wins in the numbers one and two spots helped the Brevard College men’s tennis team (2-5) earn a 6-3 decision over Curry College (0-3) at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida  The match was part of BC’s stay in the Spring Break Sports Tournament, hosted at multiple facilities including the USTA Center. Number-one doubles pairing Jackson Ray and Ethan McGee, along with JaMarcus Walker and Troy Broska who were slotted in the number-two spot, both defeated their opponents by a score of 8-6. A number-three doubles default win gave BC an early 3-0 match lead heading into singles play. 
  • Times Announced for Men’s & Women’s Tennis Spring Break Tournament

    Official start times have been announced for the 2020 Spring Break Sports Tournament, held at the USTA Center in Orlando, Florida.  Updates will be provided when available via @BCTornados and @Brevard_Tennis on Twitter, and on bctornados.com at the conclusion of action.  Brevard’s opponents feature NCAA DIII opponents from across the country. BC will compete in the tournament from March 9-13.  The men’s and women’s tennis teams of Brevard College will play in a total of nine matches, as the women’s side will compete in five matches and the men will play in four. 
  • Brevard vs. Berea Rescheduled for Sunday, March 15; Moved to McCoy Tennis Complex

    The Brevard College men’s and women’s tennis teams have announced that their respective conference-opening contests, originally slated for this Saturday in Berea, Kentucky, have been rescheduled for Sunday, March 15 and the location has been changed to the McCoy Tennis Complex in Brevard.  The contests will follow BC’s spring break trip to Orlando, Florida, where both teams will compete in a tournament next week.  The Tornado women’s team opens play on Monday, March 9 against Transylvania University at 6:30 p.m., while the men’s side plays its first match on Tuesday, March 10 against Curry College at 6:30 p.m. in a doubleheader alongside the women’s squad. 
  • BC Tennis Teams Back at Home for Rematch with Falcons

    The Brevard College men’s (1-4) and women’s (2-3) tennis teams return to action on Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex when the Tornados face off against Pfeiffer University’s men’s (3-2) and women’s (0-4) teams at 1 p.m. for Family Day at BC.  Brevard’s women’s team will be seeking a season sweep over Pfeiffer after a dominant  8-1 victory in the Fall season in Misenheimer, North Carolina. BC’s men will be looking to avenge an 8-1 loss at the hands of the Falcons from the Fall.  On September 29, 2019, the BC women’s team cruised to an 8-1 victory in its Fall finale against Pfeiffer.  The number one doubles team of Samantha Sepe and Alli Kogoy defeated the number one team of the Falcons, 8-2.  The number two and three doubles teams for Brevard were even more dominant, each posting 8-0 wins.  Hamrick Perry and Margaret Correll blanked the Falcons, 8-0 in no. 2 doubles, while Jen Cox and Sarah Iocovozzialso did not lose a game in their perfect match.  In total, the three teams of the Tornados outscored Pfeiffer 24-2 in games in doubles play.
  • Men’s Tennis Falters to Falcons at Home

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-5) fell to the Pfeiffer University Falcons (4-2), 7-1, on a brisk Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College.  The match was highlighted by freshman captain Jackson Ray earning a three-set victory in number-two singles over Phillip Conaway. Ray took the first set, 6-4, before falling in the second set by a score of 8-6. In the tie-breaking third set, Ray outscored Conaway, 10-4 to take the match.  Sophomore Andrew Ingram fought hard in his number-three singles match, falling narrowly to Pfeiffer’s Trey Speight. Ingram fell 6-1 in the first frame before battling back to earn a 6-4 second-set victory.   • Tornados Earn First Win of Season with 8-1 Triumph over SMC

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-4) earned its first victory under Head Coach Brad Jones in the 2019-20 campaign with a dominant 8-1 victory over Spartanburg Methodist College (0-6) in the Tornados’ Spring season-opener at the McCoy Tennis Complex.  The victory came by way of numerous first-career wins for the young Tornado team comprised of six freshman and one sophomore.  BC newcomers Ethan McGhee, Jackson Ray, Miles Schafer, and JaMarcus Walker each earned their first collegiate victories in singles play. Moreover, the duos of McGhee/Ray, Troy Broska/Andrew Ingram, and Miles Schafer/JaMarcus Walker collected their first wins as doubles pairings. 
  • Men’s Tennis Season-Opener vs. Johnson C. Smith Canceled Due to Weather

    The Brevard College men’s tennis Spring season-opener against Johnson C. Smith, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex, has been canceled due to potential inclement weather in the Brevard area. 
  • USA South Coaches Vote Men’s Tennis Fifth in West Division Preseason Poll

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team has been selected to finish fifth in the USA South Conference West Division with 18 points in the annual Coaches’ Preseason Poll. BC is under the direction of first-year Head Coach Brad Jones and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jimmy Wynn.  Piedmont College (first, 33 points) and LaGrange College (second, 32 points) each received three first-place votes in the tabulation, while Covenant College was selected third in the West Division with a first-place vote and 28 points.  Huntingdon College was picked slightly ahead of the Tornados, as the Hawks earned 19 points for the fourth-place spot. Berea College finished in sixth with nine points, while Maryville College was tabbed seventh with eight points. 
  • BC Men’s Tennis Releases Spring Schedule

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team has finalized its 2020 Spring schedule of opponents, announced first-year Head Coach Brad Jones.  "I am really excited for the men’s Spring season,” said Coach Jones. “We are a very young team, with six out of seven players being freshmen. Since arriving on campus, I have been very impressed with the men’s work ethic and the amount of time they have spent on the court. I’m looking forward to seeing that improvement and watching their individual games continue to develop throughout the Spring.” The Tornados will open the Spring with four-consecutive home matches at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College. The men face Johnson C. Smith University first on Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. before joining their counterparts on the women’s side for a Tuesday, February 11 matchup against Southern Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. in a match that serves as Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day. 
  • Men's Tennis Drops Fall Road Match at Pfeiffer

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team (0-3) dropped a Fall team match, 8-1 to host Pfeiffer University on Sunday afternoon in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Highlighting the day for the Tornado men’s team was a three-set victory by BC’s Troy Broska in number four singles.  Broska fell 6-4 in the first set, creating a must-win scenario in set number two. Broska delivered with a 7-6 tiebreaker win in the second set to force a third set.  The freshman from Estanollee, Georgia then prevailed with a thrilling 12-10 win in the third set tiebreaker to take the match.
  • Men’s Tennis Drops Road Match at NCAA DII UVA-Wise

    The Brevard College men’s tennis team dropped a dual match, 7-0 to NCAA Division II University of Virginia-Wise on Saturday in Wise, Virginia. Despite dropping every match in the team competition, the Tornados produced two highly competitive results in singles play. In number two singles, Brevard’s Ethan McGhee dropped two sets to UVA-Wise’s Coleton Burke. In both sets, however, McGhee pressed Burke to a set tiebreaker before ultimately falling 7-6, 7-6.
  • Fall Schedule Set for Brevard College Men’s & Women’s Tennis Programs

    Newly-minted Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach Brad Jones has announced the Fall portion of the Tornados’ 2019-20 schedule.  The men’s team will play a total of four matches over the course of the September and October months. BC’s women’s team kicks off its Fall season by taking part in the Battle of the Blue Ridge, a two-day tournament on September 7-8 hosted by Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Va. Opponents for the Battle of the Blue Ridge are still to be determined.   Following the women’s tournament at Sweet Briar College, the two teams join together for the rest of the Fall season.
