BREVARD, N.C. - Senior Tom Mittring extended his singles win streak to 17 matches as the Brevard College Tornados Men's Tennis team (2-7, 1-4 USAS) narrowly fell to the LaGrange Panthers (5-2, 4-1 USAS) by a final of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

Mittring, Tim Hengst, and Tyler Frazee each picked up singles victories, while the duo of Mittring and Hengst earned a come-from-behind doubles win.

Fielding only five players on Saturday, the Tornados took forfeits in the no. 3 doubles and no. 6 singles spots.

The Mittring/Hengst no. 1 doubles victory proved to be a thriller, as the senior duo from Germany claimed an 8-7 win over LaGrange's no. 1 duo of John Benton and Kyle Kelley.

BC's senior pairing trailed 7-2, but rallied back to tie the match, saving two match points in the process. Mittring and Hengst won the tiebreaker, 7-5, to claim the win for the Tornados.

Mittring swept through his no. 1 singles match, while Hengst came away with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Frazee, the defending USA South Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, defeated LaGrange's Caleb Edde in a close, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 decision that came down to the final set.

LaGrange picked up two points via forfeit, along with no. 2 doubles, no. 4 singles, and no. 5 singles wins to clinch a 5-4 victory over Brevard.

The Brevard Men's Tennis team returns to action tomorrow as it visits NCAA DII Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, N.C. at 1 p.m.
