FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (0-3-2, 0-0-2 USAS) played Methodist University (2-2-1, 1-2-1 USAS) to a 1-1 draw in USA South Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Saturday's match marked the second straight draw for the Tornados in the last four days after tying Piedmont 1-1 in BC's USA South opener this past Tuesday. Moreover, it marked the second straight match that a Tornados' goal in the final minute of regulation tied the match.
While Tuesday's match at Piedmont was tied by a goal by BC's Lucas Campos with 29 seconds left in regulation, the Tornados trailed again on Saturday in the final minutes at Methodist.
Down 1-0, Jackson Riddle scored an unassisted goal in dramatic fashion the 90th minute to tie the match. Riddle's goal came with 53 seconds remaining to send the match into overtime.
Brevard applied pressure in the first overtime period, outshooting the Monarchs 5-1 with three shots on goal in the first ten extra minutes.
Neither team, however, was able to generate much offense in the final ten minutes as Methodist attempted just one shot, while BC did not fire a single shot in the second overtime. As a result, the match remained tied through both overtime periods en route to the 110-minute draw.
Impressively, the Tornados played man-down for the final 25 minutes of regulation and both overtime periods, as David Garrett was sent off in the 65th minute.
In total, the Tornados outshot the Monarchs 12-10 in the match with six shots on goal compared to just three.
Goalkeeper Patrick Hall and the Brevard defense shut out Methodist in three of the four periods played with the only goal allowed coming in the 68th minute.
Brevard continues its stretch of conference matches with a 1 p.m. tilt at NC Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
