    In an effort to celebrate the 2019-20 Brevard College Athletic year, the BC Department of Athletics will rebroadcast some of the most exciting contests from its past year throughout the Summer of 2020 on both its Facebook and YouTube channels.  Next up on the slate of rebroadcasts - scheduled to go live every Friday evening at 6 p.m. throughout the Summer - is BC Men's Soccer's 5-0 victory over Maryville College on October 2, 2019, at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 
  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • BC Men’s Soccer Announces 2020 Schedule

    Fresh off its first postseason appearance since 2016, the Brevard College Men’s Soccer program has released its upcoming schedule for the Fall 2020 season – a season that marks the program’s first as fully-eligible members of NCAA Division III. "I am excited about our schedule for 2020 for several reasons,” commented Head Coach Helio “L” D’Anna, who enters his second season at the helm of Brevard men’s soccer. “We have a good balance of home/away games, we avoided having back-to-back games as much as possible, and we have a good strength of schedule. Just as important, we are playing mainly DIII regional games and we are giving our kids a fair shot to qualify at large to the NCAA DIII postseason." D’Anna leads a Tornado team that is fresh off the program’s first playoff appearance since the 2016 SAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Brevard’s 2019 team, following a 7-6-3 regular season that included a 7-3-3 mark in USA South Conference play, earned a bid into the 2019 ECAC Men’s Soccer Championships last season.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Masukawa Selected to NCCSIA All-State Second Team

    Brevard College men’s soccer senior midfielder Matheus Masukawa has been selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Second Team following an impressive, record-breaking season for the Sao Paulo, Brazil native. The NCCSIA awards All-State teams in the sports of Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball in two categories – University and College. The University Division includes NCAA DI schools across the state, while the College Division includes NCAA DII and DIII schools across North Carolina.   Masukawa led all Tornado goal scorers with seven goals alongside three assists for a total of 17 points. His seven goals and 17 points each set new NCAA-era program records for single-season goals and points scored.
  • BC Men’s Soccer Concludes Season at ECAC Championships

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (7-7-3) concluded its 2019 season with a 1-0 defeat to host Widener (10-8-1) in the first round of the ECAC Men’s Soccer Championships on a cold Saturday afternoon in Chester, Pennsylvania. Widener advances to the ECAC Quarterfinals after the Pride’s Noah Saba scored the match’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Brevard College senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall recorded 13 saves in his final game in a Tornado uniform.  Hall made several spectacular saves throughout the contest to keep the contest a one-goal match. In addition to Hall, seniors Matthew Brethen, Eric Lenhart, Xavier Mariduena, Matheus Masukawa, Jackson Riddle and Alex Tenjhay wrapped up their Brevard College soccer careers at the ECAC Championships.
  • Brevard Earns Bid into 2019 ECAC DIII Men’s Soccer Championships

    Following a successful regular season that culminated with a second-place finish in the USA South West Division and a 7-6-3 overall record, the Brevard College men’s soccer team has been selected for postseason play with a berth into the 2019 ECAC DIII Men’s Soccer Championships.   Brevard has earned the number-two seed in Pod 2, where the Tornados were selected to take on No. 3 seed and host Widener University on Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m. at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium located in Chester, Pennsylvania. If victorious, the Tornados will take on the winner of No. 1 McDaniel College vs. No. 4 NJCU in the second round, also hosted by Widener, on Sunday, November 17 at 12 p.m. The winners of pods 1-4 advance to the semifinals of the 2019 ECAC DIII Men’s Soccer Championships at a site to-be-determined on Saturday, November 23 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The championship match will follow suit on Sunday, November 24 at 12 p.m.   The selection marks BC’s first postseason appearance since the Tornados competed in the SAC Tournament in 2016, where Brevard knocked off nationally-ranked Wingate University, 1-0, in that conference tournament’s quarterfinals. 
  • Hall, Monteiro Awarded All-Conference, All-Sportsmanship Honors

    Brevard College men’s soccer student-athletes Patrick Hall and Joao Monteiro have been awarded USA South Men’s Soccer All-Conference honors following the Tornados’ highly-successful run in conference play during the 2019 season.  Hall, one of Brevard’s senior captains, was named as the goalkeeper on the All-Conference Second Team, while freshman midfielder Monteiro was slotted on the All-Conference Third Team. The freshman was also selected as Brevard’s representative on the All-Sportsmanship team. The announcement marks Brevard’s first All-Conference selections in the sport of men’s soccer since joining the USA South.

  • Men’s Soccer Dominates in Home Finale to Defeat Huntingdon, 5-0

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (7-6-3, 7-3-3 USAS) concludes its regular-season home schedule and wrapped up USA South Conference play with a resounding victory, 5-0, over the Huntingdon Hawks (7-10, 4-9 USAS) on a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  With the victory, Brevard concludes conference action with a 7-3-3 record (.654 winning percentage) in USA South play, which is good enough for second place in the USA South West Division. The Tornados would hold their division’s two seed in the USA South Tournament if Brevard was eligible for conference postseason play.  Several team and individual statistical milestones were reached in Sunday’s match. 
  • Tornados Take Care of Business on Senior Day

    The Brevard College Men’s Soccer team (6-6-3, 6-3-3 USA) celebrated Senior Day with a 3-1 victory over Berea (4-15-0, 1-12-0 USAS) in USA South Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The victory for the Tornados came on Senior Day as seven Brevard College Men’s Soccer seniors - Matthew Brethen, Patrick Hall, Eric Lenhart, Xavier Mariduena, Matheus Masukawa, Jackson Riddle and Alex Tenjhay - were honored in a special halftime presentation.  Additionally, three seniors on the Tornado Reserves team - Javier Avalos, Justin Queen, and Sam Willis - were celebrated at the ceremony.  The game action began with back-and-forth play over the first few minutes of the match. Following a Tornado corner kick that applied pressure on Berea’s defense, Riddle flicked a header into the goalmouth to Lucas Campos who finished the play by finding the back of the net.  It marked Campos’ fourth goal of the season in his initial campaign with the Tornados.
  • Tornados Drop Match to Conference Leading Covenant

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (5-6-3, 5-3-3 USAS) fell 2-0 to USA Conference leader Covenant (14-2-1, 11-0-0) 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The match was a make-up game following a postponement due to lightning of the originally scheduled home opener for Brevard on September 14. Covenant jumped ahead, 1-0 in the 14th minute before adding an insurance goal in the 58th minute en route to the victory.
  • Tornados Produce Late Goal to Take Thriller from Fighting Squirrels, 3-2

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (5-5-3, 5-2-3 USAS) pulled out a 3-2 victory in thrilling fashion, as the Tornados manufactured a game-winning goal in the 87th minute to down the visiting Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels (7-10, 4-8 USAS) on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Freshman midfielder Lucas Campos scored his second game-winner of the 2019 season when the Tornados responded within a minute of Mary Baldwin’s game-tying goal. Campos - a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil – drove home the game-winner after senior midfielder Matheus Masukawa won possession near the backline. Masukawa’s pass was directed to Campos by senior defender Alex Tenjhay for the game-winning strike. Freshman forward Vinicius Giannaccini tallied a brace on Sunday afternoon, as the Campanas, Brazil native recorded his first two collegiate goals in Brevard’s win.
  • Tornados and Cougars Endure Rain in a 1-1 Draw

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (4-5-3, 4-2-3 USAS) played to a 1-1 draw against USA South Conference foe Averett (5-9-1, 3-6-1 USAS) on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The lone goal for the Tornados came in the 75th minute as Eric Lenhart scored off a free kick by Joao Monteiro.  It marked the third goal of the season for Lenhart and the team-best fourth assist of the year for Monteiro. Lenhart, a senior defender from Asheville, North Carolina, has now scored three goals in the last five games, with all three goals coming off set-piece assists from Monteiro. The two teams played a scoreless first half in a defensive struggle through the first 45 minutes.  Each team attempted just three shots in the opening stanza, with just one shot on goal by Averett.
  • Suarti’s Goal, Strong Defense Gives Brevard Big Conference Victory Over William Peace

    JP Suarti scored his first goal as a Tornado in the 12th minute off a Lucas Campos assist, while the Brevard defense withstood the host’s strong attack - earning a shutout that gave the Brevard College Tornados men’s soccer squad (4-5-2, 4-2-2 USAS) a key 1-0 triumph over the William Peace Pacers (7-4-2, 5-3-1 USAS) on Sunday afternoon. Suarti placed Dickerson’s through ball past the Pacer keeper in the low left corner of the goal, scoring the match’s lone goal that proved to be the difference in the contest. Brevard - led by senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall and a veteran backline - stood strong against a Pacer attack that fired a total of 19 shots in the match. Hall (4-5-2) stopped all eight shots that he faced on-frame for his second shutout of the season. 
  • Tornados Drop Defensive Struggle at Greensboro

    The Brevard College Men’s Soccer team (3-5-2, 3-2-2 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference road match to host Greensboro (8-5-1, 6-2-0 USAS) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina. Greensboro won the low-scoring conference battle by scoring the match’s lone goal, an unassisted strike by Darli Mihindou in the 47th minute. Brevard had difficulty creating substantial offensive opportunities against a stout Greensboro defense. The Tornados attempted just five shots in the contest with no shots on goal.  The Tornados were held to just one shot in the first half, before attempting four shots in the second stanza.
  • Patrick Hall Tabbed USA South Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

    Brevard College men’s soccer goalkeeper Patrick Hall was selected as the USA South Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 6. Hall, a senior from Pikeville, N.C., earns the honor following an outstanding performance which helped lead his team to a 5-0 victory over defending USA South men’s soccer champion Maryville College last Wednesday, October 2 at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The Tornado captain stopped a total of eight shots on the evening as Brevard played the match a man down for the final 64 minutes of competition.  Hall currently ranks fourth in the USA South with a .766 save percentage and has the sixth-least goals allowed average (1.38).
  • Lenhart’s Overtime Winner Pushes Brevard Past Pfeiffer, Gives Tornados Third-Straight Victory

    In the final seconds of the first overtime period, senior defender Eric Lenhart’s header off a corner kick from freshman midfielder Joao Monteiro found the back of the net to clinch the Brevard College Tornados men’s soccer team’s (3-4-2, 3-1-2 USAS) third-consecutive USA South Conference victory, as the host Tornados upended the visiting Pfeiffer University Falcons (5-7, 3-5 USAS), 2-1 at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Tuesday evening. Brevard’s win halted a four-match win streak for the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons. Lenhart (1 goal) and Monteiro (1 assist) were joined on the score sheet by BC’s Matheus Masukawa, who drove home his team-leading fourth goal of 2019 on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute of play. Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall (3-4-2) earned his third-straight victory in goal for the Tornados, stopping two shots on the evening.

  • Lucas Campos Selected as USA South Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week

    Following an overtime golden goal that gave the Brevard College Tornados men’s soccer team its first victory of the season, freshman midfielder Lucas Campos has been tabbed the USA South Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week. Campos becomes BC men’s soccer’s first weekly honoree of the 2019 campaign. The newcomer from Uberlandia, Brazil talled a golden goal in Brevard’s only action of the week last Saturday to push the Tornados past the LaGrange Panthers, 2-1 on the road in LaGrange, Ga. Campos’ goal came less than two minutes into the first overtime period.
  • Golden Goal Gives Tornados First Win of 2019

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (1-4-2, 1-1-2 USAS) earned its first victory of 2019 with a 2-1 conference overtime win over host LaGrange (3-5-1, 2-2-1 USAS) on Saturday night in LaGrange, Georgia. One minute and 56 seconds into the first overtime period, freshman Lucas Campos delivered a golden goal off a throw-in by Jackson Riddle. After a slight deflection in front of the goal's mouth following Riddle’s long throw-in, Campos fired off a shot that found the back of the net for the game-winner and his second goal of the season. The golden goal completed a two-goal comeback that began with a score by Matheus Masukawa. Trailing 1-0, the Tornados were afforded a set-piece opportunity with a direct kick outside the penalty box in the 64th minute. Masukawa brilliantly curled the ball over a wall of defenders to place the shot into the top left corner for the junior’s second goal of the year.
  • Battling Bishops Storm Past Tornados, 3-0

    The Brevard College Tornados men’s soccer team (0-4-2, 0-1-2 USAS) concluded a weekend USA South road trip with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the N.C. Wesleyan Battling Bishops (6-1-1, 4-0-0 USAS) on Sunday afternoon. The Battling Bishops found the back of the net once in the first half, connecting on a 25th-minute goal before striking twice in the second half to close out the victory. 
  • 110-Minute Draw for Tornados and Monarchs

    The Brevard College men’s soccer team (0-3-2, 0-0-2 USAS) played Methodist University (2-2-1, 1-2-1 USAS) to a 1-1 draw in USA South Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  Saturday’s match marked the second straight draw for the Tornados in the last four days after tying Piedmont 1-1 in BC’s USA South opener this past Tuesday.  Moreover, it marked the second straight match that a Tornados’ goal in the final minute of regulation tied the match.
  • Men’s Soccer’s Match vs. Covenant Rescheduled for October 22, Part of Doubleheader

    Brevard College men’s soccer’s match versus Covenant College, originally scheduled for September 14 before being declared a no-contest due to inclement weather, has been officially rescheduled for Tuesday, October 22. Kickoff in the USA South conference matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m. As a result of the schedule change, BC women’s soccer’s match versus Maryville College, originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at 6 p.m., has been pushed to a 7 p.m. start time as part of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader date.
  • Silvani & Campos' Last-Minute Connection Helps Brevard Earn 2-2 Draw at Piedmont

    Freshman Lucas Campos scored off a Lucca Silvani throw-in within the final 30 seconds of regulation as the Brevard College Tornados men’s soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0-1 USAS) earned a hard-fought draw in its USA South Conference opener against the host Piedmont College Lions (2-1-1, 1-0-1 USAS) by a final score of 2-2 after 110 minutes of play at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, Ga. Senior defender Marquis Dickerson tallied his first-career goal in the seventh minute to give the Tornados the early advantage. Campos’ first-career goal was serviced by the first-career assist Silvani, a freshman from Campanas, Brazil, who placed a throw-in in a perfect position for the equalizer. Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall (0-3-1) stopped six shots in the 110 minutes of action.

  • Cavaliers Shut Out Tornados, 1-0 in Montreat

    The Brevard College Tornados Men’s Soccer team (0-3) fell narrowly to local foe Montreat College (2-2) by a final score of 1-0 on Saturday night. The contest marked the third-straight defeat for the Tornados by just one goal.  Brevard conceded an early 13th-minute goal to the Cavaliers which proved to be the difference in the contest, as Montreat stifled the Tornados defensively.  Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall recorded eight saves while facing a barrage of Montreat shots, as the Cavaliers outshot the Tornados 21-7 on the evening. 
  • Berry Uses Late Second-Half Goal to Claim 1-0 Victory over Brevard

    The Brevard College Tornados Men’s Soccer team (0-2) fell narrowly, 1-0, to the Berry College Vikings (2-0) in a Sunday afternoon match that closed out the two-day Berry Invitational in Mount Berry, Ga. Brevard senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall (0-2), along with a backline consisting of seniors Eric Lenhart, Jackson Riddle, and Marquis Dickerson – along with freshman Evan Ernst – put together a spirited defensive effort for a majority of the contest. Hall recorded two saves on the afternoon. The Tornados held the Vikings in check for much of the afternoon, however, a 76th-minute header from Berry’s Jake Williamson played off a cross from JP Phillips proved to be the game’s decider, as the forward’s header was just beyond the reach of Hall’s outstretched arms and into the left corner. Tornado freshmen Pedro Herrera and Vinicius Gianniccini were the two main shot-takers for Brevard in the contest. Herrera took three shots, including two on-target, while Gianniccini let off two shots, both of which forced a Berry save.
  • BC Battles Sewanee, Falls 2-1 at Berry Invitational

    The Brevard College Tornados Men’s Soccer team (0-1) fell in a tightly-contested contest to neutral-site opponent Sewanee University (1-0), 2-1, at the Berry Invitational held on the campus of Berry College.  Junior midfielder Matheus Masukawa scored the Tornados’ lone goal in the contest, putting in an unassisted goal early in the first half to knot the contest even, 1-1.
