Tornados Drop OT Loss to Hawks in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Brevard College Men's Soccer team (3-12, 2-9) lost 2-1 in double overtime against Huntingdon (3-10-1, 2-6-1) in a USA South Conference road match on Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.  Junior Alex Tenjhay scored the match's lone goal for the Tornados.

Despite outshooting Huntingdon 11-9 in the first half, Brevard was unable to find the back of the net in the opening stanza.  The Hawks were able to muster a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 14th minute by Kelan LeBlanc.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Tornados upped their offensive pressure even more to start the second half.  Less than five minutes into the second period, Tenjhay was able to provide the equalizer with a well-executed, unassisted goal.  It marked the second goal of the season for Tenjhay.

The two teams however remained deadlocked at 1-1 for the final 40 minutes of regulation.  In turn, the Tornados and the Hawks headed to overtime, the second overtime game of the season for Brevard.

In overtime, neither team could find the back of the net for the first overtime period.  The second overtime period was more of the same as neither team was able to break the deadlock.  That changed however with just 1:28 left to play in the second overtime when the Hawks were rewarded, then converted a penalty kick.  Conner Howard scored the game-winner for Huntingdon.

Goalkeeper Patrick Hall registered four saves in the contest, bringing his season save total to 108.  Hall and the Brevard defense shut out the Hawks for 95 minutes of the double-overtime marathon until the game-deciding penalty kick.

The shot totals were very equal throughout the match with Brevard finishing with a 23-22 advantage.  Huntingdon however out-shot BC 6-4 in extra time.

The Brevard Men's Soccer team returns to action on Monday, October 22 with a non-conference, home match vs. Bob Jones.  Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.
