Tornados shut out in home opener

Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard Tornados Men's Soccer team took the field for the first time in 2018 in front of their home crowd Wednesday night. Bob Winch's squad faced off against the NAIA's Montreat College Cavaliers in non-conference action. The Cavaliers (2-2-1) prevailed, shutting out Brevard (0-2-0) en route to a 5-0 victory.

Shots were plentiful for the Cavaliers throughout the contest. Montreat outshot the Tornados by a combined 28-5 margin, firing 10 in the 1st half and adding 18 shots in the 2nd half. Montreat had four players who took 4+ shots a piece and enjoyed a two-goal night from Will Stallworth, who connected on both of his shot attempts in his 57 minutes of work.

House of Cards: Both Brevard and Montreat received two yellow cards on the night. Brevard's Chris Efenecy (32') and Alex Tenjhay (68'), and Montreat's Juan Carlos Ramirez (24') and Raphael Duarte (38') were shown the yellow card in the contest. Brevard did stay calm and under control in regards to fouls, as Montreat's aggressive style caused them to foul twice as much (22-11).

Tornados' Play of the Game: Starting Goalkeeper Patrick Hall (0-2-0) made an unbelievable save early on to protect Brevard from dropping down 1-0 early in the contest. Brevard fouled Montreat forward Juan Carlos Ramierez inside the box at the 9:44 mark, setting the Cavaliers up with an early penalty kick attempt. Patrick Hall read the shot perfectly, deflecting the shot headed for the right corner and out of harm's way. This save was one of 11 saves that the goalkeeper made on the night, a season and career high for him.

Next Up: Brevard will begin conference play as they travel to Berea this Saturday at 2:00 pm.
