Jim Fritz Named Men's Lacrosse Head Coach

Brevard, NC – Jim Fritz was named the fourth Head Coach of the Brevard College Men's Lacrosse Program announced Friday morning by Athletic Director Myranda Nash.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Jim Fritz as our Head Men's Lacrosse Coach," says Athletic Director, Myranda Nash.  "Jim has had many successes and is highly esteemed in the lacrosse coaching ranks. His ability to create and sustain a positive and competitive environment is one that I'm very much looking forward to. It was very clear to me, early on, that Coach Fritz was the right fit for us and will lead the Tornados to success quickly in his tenure here."

Jim Fritz has a reputation as one of the most experienced and productive NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Coaches. During his career, he has started three lacrosse programs and recorded 208 career wins. Coach Fritz has been instrumental in the development of Division II Lacrosse within the USILA and the NCAA. He is also known for building the sport of lacrosse across the Southeast. He was the founding board member for the Charlotte Lacrosse Boosters and serves as a board member for the Youth Lacrosse USA.

"I want to thank Myranda Nash and Juan Mascaro for the opportunity, I am excited for what we can do with the Brevard Lacrosse program and to get started," stated Coach Fritz. "With what Brevard College has to offer, our location, the new facilities, and especially the support from the school, I feel we should be competitive in the USA South Conference very quickly."

Coach Fritz is looking forward to taking over the Brevard College program, as the team wrapped up its most successful season in 2018. The Tornados finished the year with a 9-3 overall record and a perfect 7-0 record at home. Coach Fritz plans to continue to develop the program over the next few years.

"There is a strong foundation of players in place, who are ready to take the team to the next level," said Coach Fritz. "I know there are a lot of great players looking to play at the college level and be a part of something special that we are building at Brevard College. I am looking forward to beginning the recruiting process."

Coach Fritz comes to Brevard College after starting the boy's lacrosse program at Christ the King High School. Prior to that, Coach Fritz served 12 years as the head coach at Queens University where he started the program, recording a 102-89 record while at the helm. He also led Queens to two regular season conference titles and one conference title championship. He was named the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year in 2010 after leading Queens to a 9-4 overall record. In 2014, Fritz earned another Coach of the Year honor in the South Atlantic Conference after leading the program to a 6-1 conference record and Queen's first appearance at the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship. Fritz has coached 57 all-conference selections, 30 All-Tournament Team Selections, 11 All-American honorees, five North/South selections, and three conference players of the year.

Prior to Queens, Coach Fritz served as the head coach at Pfeiffer University from 1990-2002. During his time at Pfeiffer, Fritz built a successful program, producing two Conference Championships, 50 All-Conference Selections, 24 All-Americans, six North/South Selections, and three NCAA Record Holders.

Fritz has been inducted into Pfeiffer Athletics Hall of Fame and Montclair State Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He holds the record for wins at both Pfeiffer and Queens as well as the Deep South Conference. He is top-10 in Division II in wins and win percentage. He has coached five players who have been drafted professionally and six players who continued playing overseas. Coach Fritz was selected twice to coach in the Division I/II North/South All-Star Game. He also serves on the NCAA Championship Committee for Men's Lacrosse.

Fritz graduated from Montclair State University in 1985. He has a wife, Annemarie and daughter Claire. He is the owner of Jim Fritz Lacrosse, LLC that directs camps and clinics. He has twice been selected to speak at the national coach's convention and continues to run and speak at various local coaching clinics.
