Tornados Look to Wrap Up Perfect Home Slate

BREVARD, N.C. – Riding a program record five-game winning streak, which includes three wins at home against Methodist, Piedmont and William Peace, the Brevard men's lacrosse team looks to finish out the home portion of its schedule undefeated when it hosts Averett on Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Tornados (8-2) need one win to establish a new program record for most wins in a season, as the current unit is tied with the 2015 team, coached Kevin Anderson, who finished 8-8. A home win would also wrap up a perfect 7-0 mark for Brevard men's lacrosse, establishing another program first.

The game will also serve as a senior day for David Buono, Cole Hansen, Austin Sweat, Xzavier Holmes-Copeland and Kyle Hunziker.

It is the first home game for the Tornados since they completed a 16-9 win against William Peace on March 17. In the last outing, the trio of Hunziker, Sam Duffie and Hewitt Farr tallied three goals each as the Brevard men's lacrosse team posted a 12-8 victory over Greensboro.

Brevard won its second road game of the slate by holding the opposition under double figures for the seventh time this season and fourth time in the winning streak. That was due in large part to Holmes-Copeland converting 10 saves on the afternoon.

Jackson McKaig tops the team in offense with 39 goals and 55 points, handing out 16 assists along the way. Hunziker is Brevard's assists leader with 19 on the season, ranking second in goals (27) and points (46).

The defensive efforts are led by Robert Kokal (70 ground balls) and Buono (38). In net, Holmes-Copeland has made 99 saves (.541 save percentage) with an 8-2 mark.

Averett (0-7) is in search of its first win on the season, surrendering 20 goals in six of its seven contests, including the last four straight. The Cougars have been outscored 157-15 over the course season.

Keshawn Downing leads all Cougar scorers with eight goals, while Brenner Woodcock (three goals), Joonas Mattila (two) and Nick Delapena (two) round out the offensive production. Jacob Shriver has started all seven games in net for Averett, making 122 saves along the way.
