    In an effort to celebrate the 2019-20 Brevard College Athletic year, the BC Department of Athletics will rebroadcast some of the most exciting contests from its past year throughout the Summer of 2020 on both its Facebook and YouTube channels.  Next up on the slate of rebroadcasts - scheduled to go live every Friday evening at 6 p.m. throughout the Summer - is BC Men's Basketball's 75-69 victory over USA South West Division leading Covenant College at the Boshamer Gymnasium on February 11. 
  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Brevard College Athletics Wraps Up 2019-20 Year, Hosts BESPYs Awards Virtually

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics hosted its annual Athletic Awards – “The BESPYs” – virtually for the first time ever on the evening of Wednesday, April 29 via its social media platforms of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The event is traditionally held in an in-person banquet-style format at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the campus of Brevard College. Due to classes now being held online, the event moved to an interactive online format, as traditional award winners were announced through a variety of graphic and video messages on the BC Athletics social media channels. This year’s BESPYs included special video messages from Director of Athletics Myranda Nash, BC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board (Brittany Franks, Josh Romero, Ali Grace Hartman, Mari Cook, Kelly Wilkins, and Anna Burnette), USA South Conference Commissioner Dr. Tom Hart, BC Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Stephen Knott, the BC Head Coaching Staff, and Brevard President Dr. David Joyce and Lynne Joyce.

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics has announced that the 12th Annual BC Tornados Open will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at Lake Toxaway Country Club in Toxaway, North Carolina.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Monumental Overtime Comeback Win Gives Men’s Basketball Victory on Senior Day

    Trailing by 15 points with less than 10 minutes left in regulation, the Brevard College men’s basketball team (7-18, 6-12 USAS) mounted an inspired comeback effort led by its trio of senior student-athletes Demari Hopper, Levi Lamb, and Qadhafi Turner. The Tornados tied the contest in regulation with a late 3-pointer before outscoring the visiting Huntingdon Hawks (12-13, 9-9 USAS) 15-11 in overtime to earn an 84-80 victory on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Senior forward Levi Lamb capped off his illustrious career by coming alive in the second half and overtime period. The Atlanta native tallied 23 of his 25 points after the first half. BC’s fourth-leading NCAA-era career scorer made eight field goals, including a trio of 3-point baskets late, while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw stripe. Levi Lamb put in work on the defensive end of the floor as well, blocking four shots and recording a pair of steals in his final game as a Tornado.  Turner tied his career-high by scoring 20 points, all coming in the second half and overtime. The senior guard also hit a team-best five shots from long-distance and recorded a season-high five steals. 
  • Tornados Set to Honor Trio of Seniors in Saturday’s Season Finale

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (6-18, 5-12 USAS) will play host to Huntingdon College (12-12, 9-8 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the season finale at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The Tornados will honor its three seniors - Demari Hopper, Levi Lamb, and Qadhafi Turner - prior to Saturday’s contest. 
  • Tornados Fall Short at Maryville

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (6-18, 5-12 USAS) dropped a 78-62 conference defeat to host Maryville (8-15, 7-9 USAS) in the penultimate game of the season played Saturday in Maryville, Tennessee.  In turn, Brevard and Maryville split their season series, with the Tornados topping the Scots 67-63 on January 28 at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Forward Cannon Lamb led Brevard with 17 points.  Senior Levi Lamb produced 14 points with three steals, two assists, and a blocked shot.  Senior Demari Hopper was the third Tornado to score in double figures with 11 points, all coming in the second half, to go along with a team-high five rebounds.  Senior Qadhafi Turner registered a game-high four steals. BC found production from all four of its bench players, as Mike Williams (5 pts, 4 rebs), Hayden Cassell (5 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast),  Messiah Pankey (3 pts) and Paris Crawford (2 pts) found the scoring column.
  • Tornados Host Jameson’s Joy Night in Tuesday Night Battle with Covenant

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-17, 4-11) plays host to USA South West Division-leading Covenant College (13-7, 10-3 USAS) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Brevard College will be hosting the Jameson’s Joy Memorial Service Foundation during Tuesday’s contest. The Jameson’s Joy Memorial Service Foundation was created to honor the life and legacy of an amazing 9-year-old boy, Jameson Courtine, who left this earth last year. They hope to inspire people to build and strengthen their communities through acts of kindness – just as Jameson did. Jameson’s legacy has already touched hundreds of people in a positive way.   • Panthers Cruise Past Tornados at The Bosh

    Cannon Lamb posted a game-high 26-point effort, however, the Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-17, 4-12 USAS) couldn’t keep pace in a 95-74 defeat to the LaGrange College Panthers (6-14, 5-8 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Honorary Tornado Russell McKay from Cherokee, North Carolina was honored before and during Saturday’s game as part of Team IMPACT Day at Brevard. Before last season, the Tornado men's basketball program signed McKay through Team IMPACT to become an honorary member of the basketball team.  Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched nearly 1,600 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 49 states, reaching over 50,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie, and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency, and perspective.   Cannon Lamb led the way for all scorers in Saturday’s battle, as the Tornado junior dropped 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field. The Marion, North Carolina native racked up a season-best three blocks on the defensive end of the floor and added four rebounds, two steals, and two assists to his total. 
  • Tuesday’s Game vs. Covenant Pushed Up to 6 P.M.

    Due to rescheduling in the USA South Conference as a result of inclement weather over the weekend, the Brevard College men’s basketball team has been forced to make a schedule alteration to its upcoming home game against Covenant College on Tuesday, February 11.  The Tornados and Scots will now tip-off at 6 p.m. in Tuesday’s USA South bout as Covenant shifted its weekend basketball schedule to accommodate changes forced by this weekend’s weather conditions.  Stay tuned to bctornados.com and the official social media channels of Brevard College Tornados Athletics for future schedule change information.

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-16, 4-10 USAS) returns to the confines of the Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday at 2 p.m. to battle LaGrange College (5-14, 4-8 USAS) in USA South Conference competition.  The BC Department of Athletics will host Team IMPACT Day alongside Saturday’s contest. Before last season, the Tornado men’s basketball program signed Russell McKay from Cherokee, North Carolina through Team IMPACT to become an honorary member of the basketball team.  Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. BC dropped a 93-64 decision to the Panthers in LaGrange, Georgia on January 25. 
  • BC Set for Rematch with Piedmont on Wednesday Evening

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-15,4-9 USAS) will be looking to avenge a loss to Piedmont College (10-9, 5-7 USAS) from earlier in the season as the two sides meet at the Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia in a 7 p.m. tip-off.  Live statistics and video are available courtesy of Piedmont College by clicking here.  The Tornados come into Wednesday’s contest as winners of two of their last four games. Brevard took tight victories on the road against Huntingdon College 83-81 and escaped with a 67-63 home win against Maryville College last Tuesday, January 28.  Piedmont has won its last three games, starting its three-game win streak with a dominant 97-73 victory over the Tornados back on January 21 at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Senior guard Demari Hopper tallied a career-best 25 points on eight made field goals and a career-high six made 3-pointers in the defeat. 
  • Piedmont Pulls Away Late to Take Win over Tornados

    The Brevard College Men’s Basketball team (5-16, 4-10 USAS) dropped a road USA South matchup 65-61 to host Piedmont (11-9, 6-7 USAS) Wednesday night in Demorest, Georgia. Four Tornados scored in double figures in the defeat, led by senior guard Demari Hopper who registered 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field.  Cannon Lamb scored 14 points, draining three 3-pointers.  Qadhafi Turner hit four 3-pointers en route to 13 points, while Levi Lamb added 11 points. Hopper and Levi Lamb each pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with their double-digit scoring outputs.  Lamb also registered four steals and two blocked shots.
  • BC Falls to William Peace in USA South Contest at the Bosh

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-15, 4-9 USAS) fell 89-77 to USA South Conference foe William Peace (8-11, 6-9 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Senior Levi Lamb led the Tornados with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field while going 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.  It marked the fifth time this season that the Atlanta, Georgia native has scored 20 or more points in a contest.  Senior Demari Hopper produced a 19-point output as part of a strong overall game that included game-highs in assists (five) and steals (five) as well as five rebounds.  Sophomore Joshua Wilson led the Tornados on the boards with six rebounds.
  • Men’s Basketball Hosts Sixth Annual Red Out Game vs. William Peace on Saturday

    The Brevard College Tornados men's basketball team, in conjunction with The Jimmy Griffin Foundation and the American Heart Association's Heart Health Awareness Month, are set to host its sixth annual "Red Out" game in memory and support of Jimmy Griffin's legacy. Students, fans, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear the color red to "Red Out" the Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to honor the legacy of Jimmy Griffin as the Tornados host William Peace University.
  • Late Bucket & Steal Seals BC’s Triumph over Maryville

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (5-14, 4-8 USAS) pulled away late to claim a 67-63 victory over Maryville College (4-13, 3-7 USAS) in a Tuesday evening doubleheader at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Trailing 63-62 with 1:08 left to play, junior forward Cannon Lamb hit a 3-point jump shot at the top of the key to give the Tornados a 65-63 lead. On Maryville’s last possession of the contest, senior guard Demari Hopper broke up a Maryville pass to seal BC’s victory.  Tuesday evening’s game was part of the "Black Out for Black Mamba" tribute in memory of NBA legend Kobe Bryant at the women's and men's basketball doubleheader at Brevard College. Bryant and the other victims of a tragic accident in California were remembered with a moment of silence before each game and by the BC Basketball community wearing the color black. Senior guard Qadhafi Turner led the way for four Tornado double-digit scorers on the evening. The Wilmington, N.C. native scored a season-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 4-of-6 mark from long distance. Turner hauled down a team-high seven boards while racking up a game-best four steals. 
  • Tornado Basketball Hosts “Black Out for Black Mamba” on Tuesday at The Bosh

    The Brevard College men’s and women’s basketball teams are geared up to host the final home doubleheader of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The women’s squad (5-12, 3-8 USAS) plays host to Covenant College (6-12, 3-6 USAS) in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off, while BC’s men’s team (4-14, 3-8 USAS) faces off against the Maryville College Scots (4-12, 3-6 USAS). The Tornados and Scots will tip-off at approximately 7:30 p.m., or at least 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s contest. Brevard Basketball will host “Black Out for Black Mamba” during Tuesday’s doubleheader. Fans are encouraged to wear black in memory of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was involved in a tragic and heartbreaking incident on Sunday in southern California. Bryant, who played 20 years for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be honored in a moment of silence prior to both the men’s and women’s games. As part of the promotion, special edition Brevard College Basketball t-shirts will be given away to fans and students in attendance. Brevard College Athletics will also welcome the Special Olympics of Transylvania County to Tuesday’s doubleheader.
  • Cassell Scores Career-Best 16 Points as Panthers Drop Tornados in LaGrange
    January 25, 2020
    Sophomore Hayden Cassell dropped a career-high 16 points off the bench, however, the LaGrange College Panthers (4-13, 3-7 USAS) used a hot shooting performance to down Brevard College (4-14, 3-8 USAS) by a final score of 93-64 on Saturday evening in LaGrange, Georgia. Cassell’s 16-point performance came by way of an efficient 6-of-8 shooting from the field and four made free throws in the game. Seniors Demari Hopper (15 points) and Levi Lamb (11 points) joined Cassell in double-figures, while Noah Lea added nine points off the bench. Hopper wrangled in a team-high seven rebounds and swiped two steals in addition to Cassell and Qadhafi Turner, who each also recorded a pair of steals.  LaGrange’s Ronald Youngblood led six Panther players that reached double-digit scoring totals, as he tallied a game-high 18 points alongside of 10 rebounds for a double-double. Julian Cameron, the leading scorer in the USA South Conference, added 14 points while the Panthers scored 42 total points from bench contributors. 
  • Tornados Pull Out Thrilling Victory over Hawks, 83-81

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (4-13, 3-7 USAS) pulled out a close victory, 83-81, over the Huntingdon College Hawks (9-8, 5-5 USAS) on Friday evening in Montgomery, Alabama.  Junior forward Cannon Lamb scored 26 points, just one point shy from his career-high, on 10-of-18 shooting from the field with three made 3-pointers. Senior forward Levi Lamb stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, three boards, three assists, and two blocks, while Joshua Wilson rejected a game-high four shots. Senior guard Qadhafi Turner scored 12 points off the bench on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.  Huntingdon’s Damien Madison scored a game-high 33 points on nine made field goals and an impressive 13-of-15 from the free-throw line. 
  • Tornados Set for Weekend Full of Conference Action on the Road

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-13, 2-7 USAS) will head on the road for back-to-back USA South Conference matchups against Huntingdon College (8-8, 5-4 USAS) in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT and LaGrange College (3-12, 2-6 USAS) in LaGrange, Georgia on Saturday at 5 p.m. Links to live video and statistics for this weekend’s road contests can be found by clicking here. The Tornados will be finishing up a stretch of five-out-of-six games on the road this weekend, as BC is searching for its first victory since an 83-79 triumph over NC Wesleyan on January 5 at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
  • Hopper Drops Career-High 25 in Home Loss to Piedmont

    Senior guard Demari Hopper tallied a career-best 25 points on eight made field goals and a career-high six made 3-pointers as the Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-13, 2-7 USAS) fell in a USA South Conference matchup to Piedmont College (8-9, 3-7 USAS) on Tuesday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Hopper shot 8-of-15 from the field and knocked in 6-of-11 from beyond the arc to pass his previous career-high of five made 3-pointers set on December 30, 2019, at Oglethorpe University. The Gastonia, North Carolina native also knocked in 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.  Senior Levi Lamb, who was honored in a pre-game ceremony for scoring his 1,000th career point last week, added eight points off two made 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. Lamb stuffed the stat sheet by dishing out a team-high five assists while also tallying three rebounds and three assists. 
  • Men’s Basketball Staff to Participate in Suits and Sneakers vs. Piedmont

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-12, 2-6 USAS) returns to the Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening following a three-game road trip to face the Piedmont College Lions (7-9, 2-7 USAS) in USA South Conference play. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Lee Burgess, along with Assistant Coach Miles Leathers, will participate in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers program – a nationwide event that unites basketball coaches across the country for the common cause of saving lives from cancer. Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness, helping to save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.
  • Levi Lamb Scores Career-Best 30 Points as Tornados Fall Short to Falcons in Overtime

    Senior Levi Lamb poured in a career-high 30 points, however, the Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-12, 2-6 USAS) dropped a conference road contest, 94-87, to host Pfeiffer University (8-7, 3-4 USAS) in overtime on Saturday evening in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The two teams battled through regulation to a 79-79 tie before the Falcons outscored the Tornados 15-8 in overtime to take the victory in USA South Conference play. Levi Lamb, a senior from Atlanta, tied his career-high with six made 3-pointers on Saturday night. The forward went 11-of-18 from the field en route to his career-best scoring performance.   The output came just one game after eclipsing the 1,000 point mark, raising his career total to 1,035 points.
  • Levi Lamb Joins 1,000-Point Club on Tuesday at Covenant

    Brevard College senior forward Levi Lamb became the fifth member of Brevard’s NCAA-era 1,000-point club on Tuesday evening in a conference game at Covenant College.  The Atlanta native joins four other former Brevard College student-athletes to join this exclusive club - Jonathan Whitson (2007-10, 1,547 points), current BC men’s basketball Assistant Coach Miles Leathers (2012-16, 1,265 points), Josh Roper (2009-11, 1,190 points), and Stevie Williams (2014-18, 1,096 points).  Levi Lamb scored his 1,000th point with a layup with 11:20 left to play in the second half. This milestone came just one game removed from the senior breaking the Brevard College NCAA-era record for career 3-pointers made on January 8 against Berea College.  The individual career milestone came on an evening where the Tornados (3-11, 2-5 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference road matchup to division-leading Covenant (9-4, 6-0 USAS) by a final of 75-55.
  • Tornados Travel to Division-Leading Covenant on Tuesday

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-10, 2-3 USAS) will continue its three-game road trip on Tuesday evening, making the trip to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to battle with the Covenant College Scots (8-4, 5-0 USAS) for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. Covenant currently sits atop the USA South Conference West Division with an unblemished 5-0 record in conference play.   • Levi Lamb Breaks Career 3-Pointer Record as BC Comeback Attempt Falls Just Short

    The Brevard College Tornados men’s basketball team (3-10,2-4 USAS) overcame a slow start and kept within striking distance for a majority of the second half, however, its comeback attempt came up just short as the Berea College Mountaineers (6-5, 2-2 USAS) took a 71-65 victory to earn a split in the season series on Wednesday night at the Seabury Center. With a 3-pointer at the 14:35 mark in the first half, Levi Lamb became the BC men’s basketball program’s NCAA-era leader in career 3-pointers made, as the senior drilled his 124th career long-range bucket to pass former Brevard College player Gaither Hendrix (2010-12) for most made 3-pointers in the NCAA-era. Junior forward Cannon Lamb produced his fifth 20-point outing of the 2019-20 season on Wednesday night, scoring a game-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting that included a team-best pair of 3-pointers. The Marion, North Carolina native posted his third double-double effort of the season by hauling down 10 boards on the night.
  • Men’s Basketball Seeks Season Sweep over Berea on Wednesday

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-9, 2-3 USAS) will look to continue its hot stretch of late as the Tornados trek to Berea, Kentucky for a rematch against the Berea College Mountaineers (5-5, 1-2 USAS) on Wednesday, January 8 at the Seabury Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. To follow along with all the action, live stats will be available here, along with live stream video here. Brevard and Berea have met one time already in the 2019-20 season, with the Tornados claiming victory with a 76-68 victory over the Mountaineers on December 7, 2019, at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Brevard started fast, outscoring the visitors 27-4 in the game's first eight minutes to propel the Tornados toward their first victory of the season.
  • Tornados Catch Fire from Deep in Victory over NC Wesleyan

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (3-9, 2-3 USAS) used season-best shooting performances in 3-point shooting (13-of-27, 48.1%) and free-throw shooting (18-of-20, 90%) to power past the visiting NC Wesleyan Battling Bishops (5-7, 1-3 USAS), 83-79, on Sunday afternoon inside the Boshamer Gymnasium. Senior forward Levi Lamb led Brevard’s hot-shooting charge by totaling a new career-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. The Atlanta native had the hot hand from distance, draining a game and season-high 5-of-10 3-pointers in the victory. Demari Hopper added 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and a flawless 7-of-7 from the free-throw stripe to continue an impressive stretch of offensive production for the Gastonia, North Carolina native. Sophomores Mike Williams (13 points) and Joshua Wilson (6 points) made key baskets for BC down the stretch, while freshman Ja’Michael Boone racked up seven points on a 3-pointer and four made free throws. Brevard’s Cannon Lamb led all players in Sunday’s contest with five assists.
