    BREVARD, N.C. - In an effort to celebrate the 2019-20 Brevard College Athletic year, the BC Department of Athletics will rebroadcast some of the very best contests from its past year throughout the Summer of 2020 on both its Facebook and YouTube channels.  First up on the slate of rebroadcasts - scheduled to go live every Friday evening at 6 p.m. throughout the Summer - is the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl held in Pittsburgh on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University. There, the historic 2019 BC Football team earned the program's first-ever bowl victory in its first postseason appearance, claiming a 42-28 victory over the host Tartans. 
  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".
  • Construction Underway for Brevard College Athletics Field House

    Construction is currently underway for a new, state-of-the-art Athletics Field House at Brevard College. The 10,375 square foot Field House will provide locker room, offices, storage and meeting space for five Brevard College sports as well as classrooms and a laboratory for the college’s Exercise Science program.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Defensive Duo of Anderson & Canady Garner All-ECAC First Team Honors

    Following the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) postseason bowl games that saw the Brevard College football team take home the Scotty Whitelaw Bowl crown, the ECAC has announced its 2019 Division IIII Football All-ECAC Teams and Major Awards.  Junior defensive standouts Dante Anderson (safety) and Steffon Canady (linebacker) were selected as All-ECAC First Team defensive honorees.  The duo of Tornados become the first-ever BC student-athletes to earn postseason accolades from the ECAC. 
  • Anderson, Canady Selected as Nominees for Cliff Harris Award

    Brevard College football defensive standouts Dante Anderson and Steffon Canady have been selected as nominees for the seventh annual Cliff Harris Award, an award given to the nation’s top small college defensive player.  Anderson and Canady represent two of only 71 players in all of NCAA DIII Football to receive consideration for the award.  Anderson, a native of Hartwell, Georgia, culminated a breakout 2019 season with a USA South All-Conference First Team selection. The junior defensive back tallied 81 total tackles, one sack, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a blocked kick in what was a career year for Anderson.  Canady, a native of Glendale, Arizona, was selected as the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Most Valuable Player following a record day where the junior linebacker recorded four sacks in Brevard’s 42-28 victory over Carnegie Mellon University. Canady set the new single-season school record for sacks with 11.6. The junior totaled 66 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble en route to a USA South All-Conference Second Team nod. 
  • CHAMPIONS!!! Brevard College Wins 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over Carnegie Mellon

    A historic, record-breaking season that will go down as the best season-to-date in Brevard College football's history concluded on Saturday, November 23 when Brevard College (8-2) won the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over host Carnegie Mellon (8-3), 42-28, at Gesling Stadium in Pittsburgh.  Brevard scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams en route to the postseason victory - the first in BC football history - as the Tornados made their debut appearance in the postseason.  The win gives the 2019 BC Football team eight victories this season, which sets a new program record for single-season victories.  The Tornados, led by third-year Head Coach Bill Khayat, outscored the hosts 21-10 in the first half before a dominant third quarter that saw Brevard score 21 points that propelled the Tornados towards victory.  Steffon Canady was named the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Most Valuable Player after a record-setting performance. The junior from Glendale, Arizona tied current Defensive Line Coach and Brevard College alumnus Axel Easter's single-game sack record, as Canady recorded four sacks in addition to eight tackles and five tackles-for-loss.

    The Brevard College Tornados football team was recently featured on WLOS News 13's "Game Changers" segment ahead of Brevard's first postseason appearance in program history, a trip to the ECAC's Scotty Whitelaw Bowl in Pittsburgh vs. host Carnegie Mellon University. The segment highlighted Brevard's record-breaking 2019 season and featured Brevard's meteoric rise through the ranks of the USA South, spotlighting Brevard's second-place conference finish after being picked sixth in the USA South Football preseason coaches poll.  "We all knew we had a better team than sixth," stated sophomore quarterback and former local high school standout at West Henderson Dalton Cole. "Kind of seeing that, not disrespectful, but you don't know what we've got going on around here."
  • Brevard Set to Conclude Historical 2019 Season at Scotty Whitelaw Bowl vs. Carnegie Mellon

    “When you’ve got something to prove, there’s nothing greater than a challenge.” – Terry Bradshaw PITTSBURGH - A record-shattering, groundbreaking season in the history of Brevard College Football is set to conclude on Saturday when Brevard College (7-2, 5-2 USA South) makes its first-ever appearance in the postseason, facing off with the Carnegie Mellon University (8-2, 7-2 PAC) in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Scotty Whitelaw Bowl. Gesling Stadium, CMU’s home ground, will serve as the site for the matchup on Saturday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.   Live video coverage will be available for this year’s edition of the Scotty Whitelaw Bowl, provided here courtesy of the Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics.   • Five Football Student-Athletes Receive USA South Conference Postseason Honors

    The USA South Conference has announced its All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship Teams following the 2019 USA South Football regular season, tabbing five Brevard College football student-athletes with postseason honors. Junior defensive back Dante Anderson was voted as Brevard’s lone All-Conference First Team selection of 2019, while three Tornados – Steffon Canady (junior, linebacker), Justin Parker (sophomore, offensive lineman), and Louis Williams III (sophomore, defensive lineman) – were dubbed All-Conference Second Team selections. Junior long snapper Brandon Whitfield was picked as Brevard’s representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.  This announcement adds to Brevard’s already established foothold on USA South awards, as the Tornados earned six USA South postseason honors in 2018 – BC’s first season eligible for USA South postseason plaudits – giving the Tornados a total of 11 such honors.
  • Hines, Norris Earn Athlete of the Week Honors from USA South Conference

    Brevard College football student-athletes Gerald Hines and Brandon Norris earned USA South Conference Football Athlete of the Week honors in the final week of weekly awards handed out by the conference.  Hines was selected as the USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week, while Norris earned USA South Special Teams Player of the Week honors.  The selections mark the fifth and sixth awards, respectively, for the BC football team from the USA South.   • Jerome Bass Named to D3Football.com’s “Team of the Week”

    Following a big performance on the road vs. Greensboro College, Brevard College freshman Jerome Bass has been selected to D3Football.com’s “Team of the Week,” presented by Scoutware.  The honor marks Brevard’s fourth national weekly award of the season, as Bass joins teammates Quentin Jackson, Rook Tate, and Jaxon Youngblood as Tornados who have been recognized nationally this season by D3Football.com.  Bass, a freshman defensive lineman from Red Springs, North Carolina, recorded three tackles - all for loss - and a sack in Brevard’s regular-season finale at Greensboro College last Saturday.  In total, Bass has enjoyed a solid freshman campaign that has included a starting appearance in every game for a stout Tornado defense. Bass has totaled 36 tackles, two sacks, and 5.5 tackles-for-loss in nine games this season.

  • Football Runs Past Greensboro in Regular Season Finale, 42-3

    Behind a season-best 270 net rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, the Brevard College football team (7-2, 5-2 USAS) concluded its 2019 regular season with a resounding 42-3 victory over Greensboro College on Saturday at Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina. With the victory, the 2019 Tornado football team reached seven victories, which ties the 2009 team for most single-season victories in the NCAA-era. Brevard’s 7-2 record sets the new program-high for single-season winning percentage. Pending possible postseason play, the Tornados boast a .778 winning percentage mark. The Tornados’ four conference wins this season also set a new program-best mark. Dating back to October 27, 2018, Brevard has won 10 of its last 13 contests. BC’s well-balanced rushing attack was led by sophomore running back Aaron Bennett, whose six carries resulted in a game and career-high 71 rushing yards. Bennett recorded two of Brevard’s four rushing touchdowns on the afternoon.
  • Tornados Conclude Regular Season at Greensboro on Saturday

    The Brevard College football team (6-2, 4-2 USAS) will conclude conference and regular season play by traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, November 16 for an afternoon clash against the Greensboro College Pride (1-8, 0-6 USAS). Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Jamieson Stadium, located at Grimsley High School.  The matchup will be live-streamed here, along with live statistics to follow along with here.  Saturday’s contest marks the finale of a record-breaking regular season for Head Coach Bill Khayat’s 2019 Tornado squad. With a win, Brevard would tie the 2009 BC squad as the only two teams in the NCAA-era to accumulate seven regular-season victories in a single season. Victory on Saturday would also give the 2019 BC football team the highest winning percentage in program history. 
  • Tornados Engineer Game-Winning Drive in Final Minutes to Defeat Cougars on Senior Night

    With its back against the wall, down six and in the final minutes of regulation, the Brevard College football team (6-2, 4-2 USAS) strung together an eight-play, 58-yard drive that was capped off with a 36-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Dalton Cole to fellow sophomore wide receiver Blake Taylor. Stamati Damalos’ extra point followed by a game-sealing interception from junior defensive back Wesley Ross locked up Brevard’s sixth victory of 2019, as the Tornados dropped preseason USA South Conference favorite Averett University (6-3, 4-2 USAS), 10-9, on Senior Night at Brevard Memorial Stadium. With the victory, the Brevard College Tornados improve to a 6-2 overall record and a 4-2 mark in USA South play. BC’s six victories thus far in 2019 are the second-most in the school’s NCAA-era history, trailing only the 2009 squad who tallied seven regular-season victories. With one more game left in its regular season, Brevard College could tie the best win total in program history. The Tornados’ four wins in conference play set the program’s new record for single-season conference victories. Dating back to 2018, Brevard has won nine of its last 12 games. “That was exactly the type of game that I expected it to be – an all-out slugfest between two stout teams,” commented Head Coach Bill Khayat following his team’s 10-9 victory over Averett. “I am absolutely thrilled for our four seniors that they were able to achieve a win in their final home game.”
  • Brevard to Honor Four Seniors in Conference Tilt Against Averett

    The Brevard College football team (5-2, 3-2 USAS) returns home to Brevard Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 9, when the Tornados face off against the Averett University Cougars (6-2, 4-1 USAS) in a key USA South Conference matchup. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. Four Brevard College senior student-athletes - defensive lineman Brandon Crawford, defensive back Quentin Jackson, wide receiver Ralph Roman III, and defensive lineman Josh Romero - will be honored approximately 25 minutes before kickoff on Saturday for their contributions to Brevard College football.  Brevard will look to continue its winning ways following back-to-back USA South victories on the road. The Tornados scored 26 unanswered points and held off a late rally to defeat NC Wesleyan College, 26-20 on October 26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, before shutting down LaGrange College, 21-3, on November 2 in LaGrange, Georgia. 
  • Brevard Shuts Down LaGrange for 21-3 Victory

    The Brevard College football team (5-2, 3-2 USAS) held the LaGrange College Panthers to just a field goal as the Tornados claimed a 21-3 victory in a shutdown defensive effort on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia. The victory marked the team’s fifth win of the 2019 campaign, guaranteeing Brevard’s first winning season since 2009. The five wins are also the most by the Tornados in the last ten seasons. Brevard’s defense stifled the Panthers’ offense throughout the contest, stopping LaGrange on four fourth-down attempts in the game. BC’s offense rushed for a season-high 223 yards, led by sophomore running back Damon Rouse. The Charlotte, North Carolina native set his new career-high with 113 yards, averaging 7.1 yards-per-carry.
  • Tornados Visit LaGrange for USA South Matchup with Panthers

    The Brevard College football team (4-2, 2-2 USAS) returns to action this Saturday, November 2 when the Tornados head to LaGrange, Georgia for a USA South Conference test against the LaGrange Panthers (3-4, 1-3 USAS). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Callaway Stadium. The Tornados are coming off a big conference road victory, 26-20, over N.C. Wesleyan College last Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The victory ended a two-game slide for the Tornados, who currently sit tied-for-third in the USA South standings. Sophomore quarterback Dalton Cole ran for two touchdowns in the victory, while Louis Williams III enjoyed a big day on the defensive side of the ball with two sacks and a forced fumble. Freshman defensive back Rook Tate returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown that proved a pivotal score for Brevard. Tate was named USA South Conference Football Defensive Rookie of the Week following his efforts last weekend.
  • Rook Tate Secures USA South Football Defensive Rookie of the Week Award

    Following a big week that included a crucial 82-yard interception return touchdown that helped Brevard College defeat N.C. Wesleyan, freshman defensive back Rook Tate has been chosen as the USA South Conference Football Defensive Rookie of the Week. Tate, who has already been awarded national honors from D3football.com’s Team of the Week thanks to a fumble recovery touchdown in a victory over Maryville on October 5, becomes the fourth BC football student-athlete to claim conference weekly honors this season.  The Gaffney, South Carolina native also becomes the third Tornado to earn the Defensive Rookie of the Week award in 2019. Fellow freshman defensive backs Joc Pledger and Tae Sullivan have each been awarded the honor this season.  Overall, a grand total of 11 Tornado student-athletes have received recognition from the conference during the 2019-20 academic season. 
  • Big First Half Lifts Tornados over Battling Bishops, 26-20

    The Brevard College football team (4-2, 2-2 USAS) scored 26 unanswered points to lift itself over USA South Conference opponent N.C. Wesleyan (3-4, 2-3 USAS), 26-20 on Saturday afternoon at Rocky Mount Stadium in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  The Tornados resisted a late comeback attempt by the Battling Bishops, who outscored Brevard 20-0 in the fourth quarter. However, N.C. Wesleyan’s comeback bid fell just short as Brevard was able to escape with the hard-fought road victory.  The victory marked Brevard’s fourth victory of the 2019 campaign, matching the program’s win total in each of the last two seasons, where the Tornados went 4-6 in both 2017 and 2018. One more win will give Brevard its highest single-season win total since the Tornado football program won seven games in the 2009 season. 
  • Football Heads Back on the Road for Clash vs. N.C. Wesleyan

    The Brevard College football team (3-2, 1-2 USAS) will look to get back to its winning ways when the Tornados take on N.C. Wesleyan College (3-3, 2-1 USAS) on Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Saturday’s contest will mark the third time that the Tornados and Battling Bishops have faced off in program history since Brevard began playing an NCAA DIII schedule in 2017. The two sides are 1-1 against each other, with the Tornados taking a high-scoring 58-42 victory in Rocky Mount on October 28, 2017, before the Battling Bishops escaped a late Brevard comeback at Brevard Memorial Stadium on October 20, 2018, by a final of 29-21. Brevard will look to bounce back from consecutive narrow USA South setbacks after opening the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2009. After the Tornados opened conference play with a 22-10 victory over defending conference champion Maryville College, Brevard dropped a road contest at Methodist University in the final seconds,  24-23, before returning home to face perennial conference power Huntingdon College. The Hawks pulled away late to take the defensive slugfest from Brevard, 21-10.

    Throughout the NCAA’s Annual Diversity & Inclusion Week, several Brevard College student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff will be featured on bctornados.com.  The second day of the four-day week (October 22-25) is titled “Broadening Our Horizons” - a day that is focused on identifying diverse connections across campus and highlighting diverse friendships, mentors, and role models.  #NCAAInclusion Week, sponsored by the NCAA’s Office of Inclusion, helps bring awareness and spotlight to diversity and inclusion on college campuses by giving student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff an outlet to share their stories through social media.  Below highlights Brevard College football senior defensive lineman Josh Romero, who serves as the BC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President, as Brevard’s second feature of #NCAAInclusion Week.
  • Joc Pledger Secures USA South Football Defensive Rookie of the Week Award

    Following a breakout game that included two interceptions, three pass breakups, and five tackles, freshman defensive back/running back Joc Pledger has been named the USA South Conference Football Defensive Rookie of the Week award for the ending on October 21.  The nod marks the third conference award that BC Football has earned in the 2019 season.  Pledger, a freshman from Monroe, Georgia, grabbed his first two career interceptions and broke up three passes in a 21-10 loss to USA South foe Huntingdon last week. Both of his interceptions came inside Brevard territory while his second was in the endzone at the end of the first half to prevent a score.
  • Tornado Defense Shines Before Huntingdon Pulls Away Late

    The Brevard College football team (3-2, 1-2 USAS) hung around all afternoon with the visiting Huntingdon Hawks (4-2, 3-0 USAS), forcing three turnovers on defense in the first half before a late 83-yard rushing touchdown sealed victory for the Hawks, 21-10, on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon game at Brevard Memorial Stadium.  The Tornado defense, pitted against one of the most high-powered offensive attacks in the USA South Conference and Huntingdon quarterback Michael Lambert - who leads the conference in passing yards and touchdowns -  held the Hawks in check for a majority of the contest.  Brevard battled all afternoon with Huntingdon, who is now just one of two teams left who are undefeated in USA South play.
  • Football Hosts Conference Power Huntingdon for Crucial Catch Game on Saturday

    The Brevard College football team (3-1, 1-1 USAS) is looking to bounce back from their first loss of the 2019 season when the Tornados host three-time USA South Conference champion Huntingdon College (3-2, 2-0 USAS) on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at a Brevard Memorial Stadium. The game serves as Brevard’s “Crucial Catch” game, which follows in line with the National Football League’s month-long efforts to raise awareness for cancer during the month of October. For more information on the NFL’s Crucial Catch, please click here.  The Tornados - who are off to their best start to a season since 2009 - will look to bounce back from a heartbreaking 24-23 defeat last weekend at the hands of in-state opponent Methodist. In last Saturday’s game, Brevard watched a six-point, 23-17 lead slip away in the final seconds when the Monarchs completed a 49-yard touchdown pass with just 27 seconds remaining to tie the game. Methodist sealed its victory with an extra point and a defensive stand on Brevard’s final drive.  Huntingdon is coming off back-to-back conference victories over Methodist (48-7) and Maryville College (45-35) in consecutive weekends.   The Hawks’ high-powered offense, led by 15th-year Head Coach Mike Turk and a veteran offense, has posted 46.5 points-per-game in their two conference contests - averaging 457.5 offensive yards-per-game in those two affairs. Huntingdon’s offense ranks second in the USA South in total offensive yards-per-game (398.6 ypg).
  • Heartbreaking Last-Minute Touchdown Lifts Methodist over Brevard, 24-23

    The Brevard College Tornados football team (3-1, 1-1 USAS) battled back from a 10-0 halftime deficit, taking a 23-17 lead late in the fourth quarter before the Methodist Monarchs (2-3, 1-2 USAS) completed a 49-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 27 seconds left to break the Tornados’ hearts 24-23, in an in-state USA South Conference showdown at Monarch Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C.  The defeat halts Brevard’s three-game win streak to open the 2019 season and the Tornados’ five-game streak dating back to last season. Sophomore quarterback Dalton Cole and the Tornado offense overcame a slow first half offensively, rebounding with three second-half touchdowns through the air. Cole finished with 267 passing yards and three touchdowns, while BC was led in receiving by Jamerial Parks, who caught two passes for career-best totals in yards (108) and touchdowns (two). Sophomore Brandon Norris caught his first touchdown pass of the season in a three-catch, 90-yard effort that included a big 79-yard touchdown catch.
  • Football Heads to Fayetteville, N.C. for In-State Conference Showdown with Methodist

    Following three consecutive victories to open the 2019 season for the first time since 2000, the Brevard College Tornados football team (3-0, 1-0 USAS) sets its sights on a conference matchup on the road vs. Methodist University (1-2, 0-1 USAS) this Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m.  Brevard enters the Methodist contest on a five-game win streak dating back to Nov. 10, 2018.  Over the win streak, the Tornados have outscored opponents 163-42 with the BC defense holding opponents to 8.4 points-per-game. Brevard holds a 2-0 all-time record vs. Methodist that includes a thrilling 41-36 victory last season at Brevard Memorial Stadium, where a late Methodist rally was thwarted by the BC defense. 
  • Tate’s Key Fumble Recovery Leads to National Honor

    Brevard College football freshman defensive back Rook Tate was selected to D3football.com’s Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, following a two-tackle performance on Saturday that included a fumble recovery on a Maryville punt attempt that helped the Brevard College Tornados defeat the defending USA South Conference champs, 22-10 last Saturday. A native of Gaffney, S.C., Tate becomes the third BC football player to earn national plaudits thus far in the 2019 season, and the third-straight selection for the Tornados in consecutive weeks. Following Brevard’s season-opening victory at home over Christopher Newport, senior defensive back Quentin Jackson became the first Tornado since 2017 to be honored by D3football.com. After last week’s 40-9 victory on the road against Allen, freshman punter Jaxon Youngblood was named to D3football.com’s Team of the Week, making it back-to-back selections for the Tornados. 
  • Brevard Knocks off Defending Conference Champion Maryville, 22-10; Improves Record to 3-0

    The Brevard College Tornados Football team (3-0, 1-0 USAS) upended the 2018 USA South Conference Football champion Maryville College Scots (0-4, 0-1 USAS) by a final score of 22-10 at Brevard Memorial Stadium, halting a seven-game USA South win streak for the Scots who had gone an unbeaten 7-0 in USA South play in the 2018 season. Saturday’s defeat was Maryville’s first in conference action since former USA South member institution Ferrum College defeated the Scots, 31-24 on November 11, 2017. “For a Homecoming game, we hosted the undefeated reigning champs of the USA South in Maryville - a team that hasn’t lost a conference game since 2017,” commented Head Coach Bill Khayat following his team’s big win. “We knew that it would take a monumental effort to get the victory today.” That monumental effort was shown with an opportune offense that capitalized on its opportunities, stingy defense that forced two turnovers, and a special teams that made big plays when called upon - including a fumble recovery touchdown and eight total points from the kicking unit.
