BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Football team (4-6, 3-4 USAS) concluded its 2018 campaign with a resounding 46-10 victory over the Allen University Yellow Jackets (2-6) on Saturday afternoon at Brevard Memorial Stadium.
BC Senior Bubba Craven ended his illustrious Tornado career in a big way, recording a career-high four touchdown catches on five receptions for 95 yards. Craven broke another school record in the process, becoming the Brevard College all-time career record holder for touchdown receptions, passing Eric Watts' (2009-12) previous record of 16 touchdown receptions.
Craven's four touchdown performance also vaulted him to a single-game record for Brevard College. Craven passed Watts for single-game receiving touchdowns, surpassing the previous mark of three touchdowns set on Sept. 24, 2011, against Wingate University.
Craven also supplanted his own school record set in 2017. With 51 receptions in 2018, Craven passes himself on the BC all-time single-season receptions list, with the previous mark set by Craven in 2017 with 50 catches.
Craven concludes his time as a BC Tornado with 101 receptions for 1530 yards and 19 touchdowns with a 54.6 average yards per game, which are all BC all-time career receiving records.
Freshman quarterback Dalton Cole also enjoyed a special day for the Tornados. Cole completed 18-of-26 passes for 216 yards and five touchdown passes. Cole's five touchdowns surpassed his previous career high of four set on October 27 against LaGrange.
Cole's five touchdown performance ties him with former BC quarterback O'Shay Carter for the BC single-game touchdown passing record set last season on September 16 & October 28, 2017.
Cole puts a bookend on an outstanding freshman season for the Tornados that saw him complete 163-of-270 passes (60.4%) for 1847 yards and 20 touchdowns. Cole now holds the BC single-season passing records for completions (163), attempts (270), and touchdowns (20). Cole's 1847 yards place him second on the BC single-season leaderboards, only trailing O'Shay Carter's 2024 yards set last season.
Head Coach Bill Khayat and the 2018 Tornados Football team's four home wins are tied for the most home victories in school NCAA-era history, and Brevard's 4-1 home record in 2018 is the best home winning percentage that Brevard College has ever had.
Senior Devon Edge recorded his first touchdown as a member of the Tornados. The Gilbert, Az. native hauled in a 22-yard pass from Cole early in the second quarter.
Senior Justin Peck finishes his Tornados career helping the Tornados out on both sides of the ball. Peck caught two passes for 31 yards on Saturday afternoon and tallied 41 career tackles for Brevard.
Senior Tyler Gregory remains the only Tornado to be honored by D3Football.com after his 225-yard record-setting receiving performance against N.C. Wesleyan last season. Gregory finishes his Tornados career with 1432 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns.
Senior Axel Easter was a force during his entire career with the Brevard College Tornados. Easter concludes his Tornados career with 89 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 27.5 tackles-for-loss, and three forced fumbles.
Senior Ryan Jordan concluded his Tornados career under center against Allen. Jordan threw the second-longest touchdown pass in BC history, firing a 73-yard bullet against Averett last season.
Brevard's six seniors and the rest of the 2018 Brevard College Tornados Football team dominated in every facet of the game against Allen University.
The Tornados got on the board with their first drive as they put together a nine play, 70-yard drive that cumulated in Craven's first touchdown of the afternoon, scoring on a 25-yard pass from Cole.
Both teams would trade possessions afterward, with Brevard gaining possession back after a short Allen punt.
Brevard took advantage of its prime field position, as Stamati Damalos put a 19-yard field goal through to extend Brevard's lead to 10-0.
The Tornados gained possession back at the 7:22 mark in the second quarter after their fourth blocked punt of 2018. Brevard took advantage of this field position once again, as Cole connected with Edge for a 22-yard score, extending BC's advantage to 18-0 after a Bobby Cleriser two-point conversion.
On the Tornados' next possession, they strung together a seven play, 55-yard drive that resulted in Craven's second touchdown for the afternoon, which broke the Brevard College all-time record. BC held a 25-0 advantage heading into the half.
The third quarter started with Quentin Jackson securing his fourth interception of 2018, which leads the Tornados' defense. After the turnover, Cole connected with Crave in the endzone for the third time on the afternoon to extend BC's lead to 32-0.
Defensive Coordinator Kurt Gouveia and the Tornado defense secured their second interception in as many drives as Trevon Charles secured the turnover and returned it 41 yards, setting the Tornados up in prime field position.
Brevard would respond with its fourth-straight scoring drive as Cole found Craven for the fourth time on the afternoon. BC extended its lead to a controlling 39-0.
Brevard's offensive explosion was closed out by Michal Phillips, who broke through the Allen front line and scampered for a 51-yard score, which was his first career touchdown.
The Tornados' 36-point victory was their largest margin of victory since BC defeated Greensboro College on September 16, 2017.
Coach Khayat and staff conclude their second season at the helm of Brevard Football with an 8-12 combined record after back to back 4-6 seasons. Both season's win totals are tied for second in BC NCAA-era history.
