BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College football team makes its 2017 home debut at Brevard Memorial Stadium when it hosts Emory & Henry on Saturday at 1 p.m. By donating two cans of non-perishable items for free admission, Tornado fans will have the opportunity to pay respect to local first responders at the Hometown Heroes game.

Saturday's meeting with Emory & Henry marks the 11th for the Tornados since the school joined the NCAA in 2007. Brevard is 3-7 in its home openers dating back to the 2007 campaign with the three victories coming in succession against Chowan (2009), Edward Waters (2010) and Johnson C. Smith (2011).

The game marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs after a clash in Emory, Va., nearly a year ago. The Tornados were put to the test in that contest, as 90 degree temperatures and a sweltering artificial turf field provided challenges throughout the game for Brevard as Emory & Henry emerged by a final of 28-14.

Brevard (0-1) will be looking to rebound from a difficult season opener against Davidson, which resulted in a 30-7 setback to the Wildcats at Richardson Stadium. The Tornados did have several bright spots in the game, including senior linebacker Jason Nieradka, who finished with a single-game career high 17 tackles that included 11 solo stops along the way.

Nieradka shattered his previous career-high in total tackles (11), which he set against Carson-Newman on Oct. 8, 2016, and established the program record for most total tackles in a single game since Brevard joined the NCAA ranks in 2007.

Tornados head coach Bill Khayat also received a standout performance from junior quarterback Ryan Jordan, who connected with six receivers in last Saturday's outing against Davidson. Jordan led the way for the Brevard offense with 238 yards passing. With his performance Jordan became the first Tornado signal caller in 95 contests to top the 200-yard passing mark. The last was Kye Hamilton, who finished 28-of-53 with 297 yards, in a 23-20 setback to Chowan on Sept. 13, 2008.
