Fall 2020 Athletics Update: USA South Adjusts Conference SchedulesJuly 14, 2020The USA South Conference has provided an update regarding the 2020 Fall sports seasons, adjusting the conference schedules in upcoming Fall sports in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference TeamJune 10, 2020The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".

Spring Senior Profile: Carson Beckett #ThankYouSeniorsMay 15, 2020Senior Carson Beckett, a four-year member of the Brevard College Cycling team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics' Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. Beckett, a native of Benton, Kentucky, graduated from BC with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with minors in Biology and Coaching. His future plans include pursuing work as an endurance cycling coach with SET Coaching, LLC. while continuing to race professionally on the mountain bike circuit. Beckett aims to stay in the Brevard area after graduation to continue planting roots and growing his network in the cycling community.

Spring Senior Profile: Hannah Arensman #ThankYouSeniorsApril 08, 2020Senior Hannah Arensman, a four-year member of the Brevard College Cycling team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics’ Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. Arensman, a native of Valdese, North Carolina, will graduate from Brevard with a double major, as she will complete Master’s degrees in both Exercise Science and Wilderness Leadership Experiential Education (WLEE). Post-graduation, Arensman plans to guide outdoor activities in North Carolina for the next couple of years, followed by exploring the possibility of guiding opportunities in the Western part of the United States alongside other countries. Alongside her career in outdoor guiding, Arensman plans to continue to race Cyclocross professionally.

Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19March 13, 2020After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.

Brevard College Launches Nation’s First Collegiate Gravel Racing TeamFebruary 19, 2020Brevard College has become the first collegiate cycling program in the United States to launch the discipline of Gravel Racing to its offerings for student-athletes. Tyler Clark Captures Second Podium to Lead BC on Day Two of National ChampionshipsOctober 12, 2019Sophomore Tyler Clark earned his second podium finish of the weekend to lead the Brevard College Cycling team on the second of three days of racing at the 2019 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships in Big Bear Lake, California. Clark finished fourth in Saturday’s Men’s Varsity Short Track race for his second podium in as many days. On Friday, Clark placed third in the Men’s Varsity Cross Country event. As a team, Brevard placed three racers in the top ten for the second straight day with a strong finish in Short Track. In addition to Clark’s fourth-place result, BC’s Tyler Orschel earned a sixth-place finish while Tornado senior Carson Beckett finished seventh.

Four Top-10s for Tornados on Day One of Mountain Bike National ChampionshipsOctober 11, 2019The Brevard College Cycling team recorded a total of four top-ten finishes on Friday in the first of three days of racing at the 2019 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bikes National Championships in Big Bear Lake, California. Three Tornado cyclists recorded top ten results in the Men’s Varsity Cross Country event to start the day off for Head Coach Brad Perley’s squad on Friday morning. BC sophomore Tyler Clark paced the five Tornados in the event with a third-place podium finish. Clark finished with a time of 1:54:07, just over three minutes behind race winner Cole Paton of Fort Lewis College. Senior Carson Beckett finished sixth, while junior Tyler Orschel placed 10th to give BC three racers in the final top-ten of the highly competitive that featured 74 entrants. BC’s Ryan Johnson (22nd Place) and Tyler Miranda (24th) both placed in the top-25 in their collegiate nationals debut.
