Dickson Wins as Tornados Open 2018 Cyclocross Season

GIBSONVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College Cycling team opened its 2018 Cyclocross season with strong showings in Races #7 and #8 of the North Carolina Cyclocross Series held Saturday and Sunday in Gibsonville and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Freshman Hannah Dickson won the Women's Category 4/5 on Saturday in Gibsonville to notch her first career collegiate win.  Dickson out-ran seven other cyclists in the event for the win.  Dickson's freshman teammate Nicole Rusden finished second in the event to give Brevard College a 1-2 sweep of the top-2 positions.

On the men's side Saturday, Brevard's Tim Coffey finished second in Category 3 with 154.87 points.

The action continued for the Tornados on Sunday in Race #8 of the NCCX Series in Winston-Salem.

On Sunday, Dickson and Rusden entered the more competitive Category 3/4 race.  Dickson followed her winning performance with a sixth-place finish, while Rusden placed ninth.

Brevard's Zack Lowden took on a very strong field in the Men's Pro Category 1/2 on Sunday, finishing 13th out of 19 riders. 

Coffey once again raced in Category 3 on Sunday, this time finishing fourth to go along with his second place finish on Saturday.
