Orschel, Rusden, and Hegedus take 1st to highlight strong showing by Brevard

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Brevard College Cycling Team opened the 2018-19 season with a very strong showing at the King University mountain bike race over the weekend.

BC Cycling Results:

Category A:

Men's A cross country: Tyler Orschel (1st), Tim Coffey (6th)

Men's A downhill: Tyler Orschel (2nd)

Women's A short track: Hannah Dickson (4th)

Category B:

Women's B Dual Slalom: Nicole Rusden (1st), Hannah Dickson (3rd)

Women's B Downhill: Nicole Rusden (1st), Hannah Dickson (4th)

Category C:

Men's C Dual Slalom: Will Hegedus (1st)

 

Brevard Cycling came away with hardware in four total events across the three different categories that the weekend had to offer. Tyler Orschel highlighted the top category, finishing first in the men's cross country event. Teammate Tim Coffey was able to earn a top-10 finish in the event as well, placing 6th overall. Orschel also placed 2nd in the men's downhill event, adding to an already successful day. The top category also featured another top-5 finish for Brevard, as Hannah Dickson placed 4th in the women's short track event.

Nicole Rusden dominated the women's events in Category B. She took home first place in both the women's dual shalom as well as the downhill event. Hannah Dickson also garnered top 5 finishes alongside her teammate, proving a strong showing for the tornados in Category B.

Will Hegedus prevailed in the Category C's men's dual slalom event, giving Brevard four 1st place finishes on the weekend to go alongside their 8, Top-5 finishes.

Tornados' Cyclists Travel Abroad:

Brevard College Tornados Cycling Team members Carson Beckett (Jr.), Nathan St. Clair (Fr.), and Tyler Clark (Fr.) have been selected to compete in the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships held in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The Championships will take place between September 5-9, and involve both cross country and downhill mountain biking. This will be the first time in program history that three Brevard Cyclists were represented in the same World Championship.
