  • Athletics Field House Officially Opens with Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting

    The new Athletics Field House on the campus of Brevard College officially opened its doors with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday, August 27. The 10,375 square foot Field House will provide locker room, offices, storage and meeting space for six Brevard College sports as well as classrooms and a laboratory for the college's Exercise Science program.

    In an effort to celebrate the 2019-20 Brevard College Athletic year, the BC Department of Athletics will rebroadcast some of the most exciting contests from its past year throughout the Summer of 2020 on both its Facebook and YouTube channels.  Next up on the slate of rebroadcasts - scheduled to go live every Friday evening at 6 p.m. throughout the Summer - is BC Baseball's 5-1 triumph over Emory & Henry College at Gil Coan Field on March 11, 2020. 
  • 112 Brevard College Student-Athletes Selected to USA South Academic All-Conference Team

    The USA South Conference announced its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting a school-record 112 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections, part of a conference-record 1,702 overall selections. Brevard’s 112 selections onto the Academic All-Conference team gives the Tornados 21 more selections than the 2018-19 season, as BC ranks tied for sixth out of the 18 USA South institutions in overall selections. A total of 32 student-athletes earned “With Distinction” honors, a significant growth of 15 selections from last academic year. The BC men’s soccer program claimed the most selections onto the Academic All-Conference team with 16, as every single team at Brevard was recognized by the USA South. In order to be selected to the USA South Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.30 GPA in each of the two semesters in the academic year to be eligible. Any student-athlete participating at any Conference institution is eligible thus the participant does not have to compete in a Conference-sponsored sport. Additionally, any student-athlete earning a 3.90 GPA or above earned the All-Academic honor "With Distinction".

    Senior Kross Robinson, a four-year member of the Brevard College Baseball team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics' Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. Robinson, a native of Morganton, North Carolina, graduated from Brevard with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Pre-Law.

    Senior outfielder Donny Carsillo, a four-year member of the Brevard College Baseball team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics’ Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. Carsillo, a native of Waxhaw, N.C. graduated from Brevard with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a minor in Business Administration. Academically, Carsillo was selected to the Honor Roll three times and the Dean’s List once.

     Senior catcher Trystan Jones, a four-year member of the Brevard College Baseball team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics’ Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19. Jones, a native of Mars Hill, North Carolina, will graduate from Brevard College with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Following graduation, Jones plans to venture back to his hometown and serve in the Mars Hill Police Department. Alongside his duties as a captain of the BC baseball team, Jones was a member of the Criminal Justice Honors Society.

  • Brevard College Alumnus Avery Booker '15 Named Head Baseball Coach at Greensboro College

    Avery Booker has been named Greensboro College's head baseball coach, Acting Director of Athletics Dr. Robin Daniel announced Monday.   Booker takes over the program's top spot after serving as the program's interim head coach this past season. Booker's squad posted a 10-8 overall record , while positioning themselves towards the top of the USA South Athletic Conference standings after going  4-2 over their first six conference games before the season came to an end.   "During the past 3 ½ years with the baseball program, Coach Booker assumed increasing responsibility for recruiting, team travel, budgeting, and coaching," Daniel said. "He has earned the opportunity to lead the team and keep the program moving forward.
  • Brevard College, USA South Conclude Spring Sports as Response to COVID-19

    After careful consideration in the wake of nationwide cancellations and postponements in the intercollegiate and professional sports landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, family, staff, and fans, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the conclusion of the 2020 Spring regular season. This also extends to all USA South Conference championships and the 2020 USA South Spring Sports Festival, originally scheduled for April 23-26 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a result of this news, and in alignment with the USA South and the NCAA, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be suspending all athletic-related activity - including competitions, practices, and travel – for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. This extends out to current Spring sports in their traditional season of competition as well as Fall sports entering into their non-traditional practice seasons. The cancellation of all athletically-related activities includes Brevard College's non-NCAA sports of Cycling, Climbing, and Competitive Cheer & Dance, while also extending to the use of on-campus athletic facilities such as the weight room and gymnasiums, among other areas.
  • Lanier Blast, Ziomek Gem Earns BC First Home Win of 2020

    Behind a first-inning, three-run homer from Holden Lanier and Reid Ziomek’s first career win in his first collegiate start, the Brevard College baseball team (3-15) earned a 5-1 victory over Emory & Henry College (5-9) on Wednesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.  BC’s win marked the first victory for the Tornados of 2020 within the confines of their home ballpark.  Reid Ziomek (1-0) pitched seven innings of six-hit, one-run baseball, shutting out the Wasps after the first inning. The freshman left-hander from Charlotte, North Carolina did not walk a single batter during his seven innings of work and struck out six batters over the course of his start.
  • Baseball Primed for Home Non-Conference Tilts with Hampden-Sydney, Emory & Henry

    Looking to bounce back in the win column, the Brevard College baseball team (2-14) will host a pair of non-conference foes from the ODAC conference in Hampden-Sydney College (10-3) and Emory & Henry College (5-8). BC meets the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney on Monday and battles the Wasps of Emory & Henry on Wednesday, with both contests slated for a 3 p.m. first-pitch time.  Live video and stats of both matchups can be found by clicking here.  The Tornados are looking to recover from a sweep at the hands of conference opponent Maryville over the weekend. Brevard fell by a 6-1 margin in the front end of a doubleheader on Saturday before dropping 17-9 and 11-3 scores in the second contest on Saturday and a Sunday afternoon matinee at home. 
  • Tigers Surge Past Tornados in Non-Conference Bout

    Hosting its fourth home game in the last three days, the Brevard College baseball team (2-15) fell in a non-conference test, 13-3, to ODAC member-institute Hampden-Sydney (11-3) on Monday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.  The Tornados battled back from a 3-0 hole, cutting the Tiger lead to a 3-2 margin before Hampden-Sydney pulled away, scoring 11 out of the next 12 runs to claim the 13-3 triumph.  Freshman outfielder Zach Allison had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Senior infielder Ryan Roon recorded an RBI double as part of a 2-for-4 effort that included two RBI’s and a run. Fellow senior Donny Carsillo hit an RBI double to score a baserunner. 
  • Maryville Takes Saturday Doubleheader vs. Brevard

    Maryville College (11-5, 5-3 USAS) used stellar pitching in game one and an offensive surge in the second game to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Brevard College baseball team (2-13, 1-7 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.  Beau Shealy tacked on BC’s lone run in the first game with an RBI triple, while five different Brevard batters drove in runs in the second matchup. Daiquon Davenport led the way with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring a pair of runs while driving in two RBI’s as well. Shealy and Holden Lanier also recorded a pair of RBI’s each, while JJ Wilkes and Jack Atkinson recorded extra-base hits in game two.  MC’s Jordan Davis (3-1) kept the Tornado offense at bay for a majority of the first game, throwing a complete game allowing just a run on five hits, striking out 12 BC batters. The Scots used an offensive explosion that included 17 run, 25 hits, and seven players with multi-hit performances to run past the Tornados in the back end of the doubleheader. 
  • Scots Cruise to Sweep over BC in Series Finale

    The Brevard College baseball team (2-14, 1-8 USAS) fell by the hands of solid pitching and opportune offense from the visiting Maryville College Scots (12-5, 6-3 USAS), as the visitors earned the series sweep with an 11-3 final score on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Gil Coal Field.  JJ Wilkes hit an RBI-double late in the contest for Brevard, while Joc Pledger scored a run for the Tornados. Freshmen Zachary Allison and Brandin Johnson each drove in runs in the eighth inning, while Jason Jucker collected a pair of hits. Kross Robinson (0-5) got the starting nod on the bump for BC, surrendering six earned runs and striking out four batters. 
  • Brevard Returns Home for Test Against Maryville

    The Brevard College baseball team (2-11, 1-5 USAS) is back at Gil Coan Field this coming weekend, when the Tornados square off against Maryville College (9-5, 3-3 USAS) in a three-game USA South Conference series.  The Tornados will play the Scots in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m., with game two following suit at approximately 3 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon in a 1 p.m. first-pitch time.  Brevard is fresh off its second conference series, where the Tornados traveled to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to take on NC Wesleyan College. The Tornados took the first game in dominant, 8-2 fashion before falling by a 12-2 final in the second game of the series. A pitching duel in the final game went the Battling Bishops’ way, as the hosts took a close 2-1 decision to win the series. 
  • Ezzell’s Big Day Helps Tornados Split Doubleheader in Rocky Mount

    Junior catcher Christian Ezzell went 4-for-5 with a career-best five RBI’s and a two-run homer to help the Brevard College baseball team (2-10, 1-4 USAS) take the first game of a USA South Conference doubleheader against NC Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  BC claimed its first conference triumph of the 2020 campaign with an 8-2 victory in the first game before dropping a 12-2 decision in the back end of the twin bill.  The pitching duo of Bryce Foster and Huntley Hacker helped keep the Battling Bishop offense in check through the first contest. Foster started the game, pitching three innings of two-hit, shutout ball, striking out a batter. Hacker came in and went the distance, throwing six innings of five-hit, two-run ball while fanning three batters. 
  • Series in Rocky Mount Against NC Wesleyan Adjusted

    Brevard College Baseball’s three-game USA South Conference weekend series against NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina has been altered.  What was originally a three day set with games played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday has been rescheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and a series-finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.  Stay tuned to @BCTornados on social media and bctornados.com for future schedule change information. 
  • Baseball's Midweek Battle at Montreat Moved to Big League Camp in Marion

    Due to baseball field reconstruction at Montreat College, Wednesday's non-conference road contest will be played at Big League Camp in Marion, North Carolina, located at the following address: 3645 Yancey Rd, Marion, NC 28752.  First pitch between the Tornados and Cavaliers is slated for 2 p.m. Live statistics can be followed by clicking here, with updates posted @BCTornados on Twitter.  Big League Camp is a baseball and softball sports and lodging facility on Lake James, North Carolina. The property is 193 acres with water access to Lake James and the Catawba River and features 15 log cabin rentals for individual rentals and facility attendees in addition to the sports facilities.  The purpose of Big League Camp is to provide a combination of outdoor activities with sport-specific training from college coaches, professional coaches, and Major League Baseball Scouts.
  • Piedmont Pulls Away Late for Series Sweep

    The Brevard College Baseball team (1-8, 0-3 USAS) fell by a final score of 11-5 in its home-opening series finale to Piedmont College (6-3, 3-0 USAS) on Sunday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. JJ Wilkes led all Tornados with a three-hit performance, as the junior infielder went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Johnny Flynn added two hits, a run, and an RBI, while Daiquon Davenport hit a two-RBI single. Joc Pledger and Beau Shealy each racked up stolen bases in the game. Piedmont was paced by a perfect day from Tyler Sheley, who went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s while Carter Ballstadt and Cameron Jackson each recorded two hits. As a team, Piedmont recorded five stolen bases in the contest.
  • BC Drops Games Two of Home-Opening Series

    The Brevard College Baseball team (1-7, 0-2 USAS) dropped game two of a three-game series vs. the defending regular-season USA South Conference champion Piedmont (5-3, 0-2 USAS) by the score of 13-6 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. The contest was part of the Gil Coan Memorial Series to honor the legacy of Brevard College alumnus and legend Gil Coan Sr., '41. Four Tornados registered multi-hit games en route to the six-run offensive output for Brevard.  Sophomore shortstop Jason Jucker went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks.  Senior outfielder Johnny Flynn was 2-for-5 with two RBI.  Sophomore catcher Brett Burchett and senior outfielder Donny Carsillo also recorded two hits.  In addition, Jucker and outfielder junior Beau Shealy scored two runs.
  • Davenport Goes Deep in Home-Opener, Tornados Fall to Lions

    Junior infielder Daiquon Davenport hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning as the Brevard College baseball team (1-6, 0-1 USAS) opened its 2020 home and conference schedule at Gil Coan Field in the Gil Coan Memorial Series on Friday afternoon. The Tornados dropped the contest, 11-2, to the visiting Piedmont College Lions (4-3, 1-0 USAS) – who are the defending USA South Baseball regular-season champions. The contest marked the first at Gil Coan Field since the passing of its namesake, Brevard College alumnus and legend Gil Coan Sr., '41. To honor his legacy, BC's home-opening series this weekend has been named the "Gil Coan Memorial Series."
  • BC Baseball Opens Home Slate at Gil Coan Field vs. Piedmont

    The Brevard College baseball team (1-5) hosts its home and conference-opening series this weekend as the Tornados face off against defending USA South Conference regular-season champion Piedmont College (3-3) this weekend at Gil Coan Field.  The Tornados will open up the series on Friday with a 2 p.m. first pitch against the Lions. The two sides will clash on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing out the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.  This weekend’s series marks the first at Gil Coan Field since the passing of its namesake, Brevard College alumnus and legend Gil Coan Sr., ‘41. To honor his legacy, BC's home-opening series this weekend will be dubbed the "Gil Coan Memorial Series." 
  • Baseball's Goude & Johnson Sweep USA South Weekly Rookie Awards

    Brevard College Baseball freshmen Samuel Goude and Brandin Johnson have swept the USA South Conference's weekly rookie awards following the completion of the Tornados' weekend series at Guilford College.  Goude was selected as the USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week, while Johnson was tabbed the USA South Baseball Rookie Player of the Week.  Monday's announcement marks the second-consecutive week that BC Baseball has been honored by the USA South. Goude's and Johnson's selections mark the 13th and 14th times respectively that a Tornado student-athlete has won a weekly award from the USA South in the 2019-20 academic year. 
  • Sweet Victory! Brevard Earns First Win of Mike Victory-Era in Wild Fashion, 12-11

    Head Coach Mike Victory earned his first-career collegiate head coaching victory in an extra-inning classic, as the Brevard College baseball team (1-4) split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to Guilford College (2-2) in Greensboro, North Carolina.  The Tornados rallied from one-run down in the top of the seventh inning, tying the contest before scratching across the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Brevard shut the door in the bottom half of the extra frame to seal Coach Victory’s first W at the helm of the Brevard Baseball program. Brevard fell in the front end of the doubleheader in heartbreaking fashion, 4-3, as the Quakers completed the comeback and sunk the Tornados. 
  • Tornados Fall in Tight 4-3 Series Finale in Greensboro

    The Brevard College baseball team (1-5) dropped a tightly-contested series finale to Guilford College (3-1), 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Edgar McBane Field in Greensboro, North Carolina. After surrendering four runs in the game’s first four innings, the Tornados held the Quakers scoreless from innings five through eight thanks to a pair of scoreless frames provided by Jakob Dennis and Bryce Foster. However, BC’s rally came up just short, as Guilford held the Tornados in check through the last three innings to seal the victory. Dennis and Foster each registered outings without allowing an earned run, as the pair came on in relief for Matthew Scavotto (0-1). The native of Charlotte, North Carolina let up just one earned run through three innings of work, striking out a batter in the process.  The Tornado offense was led by sophomore outfielder Jack Atkinson, who registered three hits, one run, one RBI, and a stolen base on the afternoon. Daiquon Davenport stole a pair of bases and scored a run for the Tornados, while JJ Wilkes drove in an RBI. 
  • Nathan Sanders Earns Rookie Pitcher of the Week Honor

    Brevard College freshman right-handed pitcher Nathan Sanders was named USA South Conference Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week following the Tornados’ season-opening series at William Peace this past weekend. Sanders, a local product from Franklin, North Carolina, pitched two scoreless innings on Sunday afternoon in his first collegiate appearance. The right-hander tallied his first collegiate strikeout while allowing just two hits. Monday’s selection marks the first weekly honor for Brevard College baseball in the 2020 season. Sander’s award marks the 12th time that a Tornado has won a weekly award from the USA South in the 2019-20 academic year.
