  • 91 Brevard College Student-Athletes Named USA South Academic All-Conference

    The USA South Conference on Friday morning released its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting 91 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections. Additionally, 18 student-athletes collected “With Distinction” Academic All-Conference honors, accruing at least a 3.9 grade point average in both the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Roon Named to NCCSIA Baseball All-State Second Team

    Junior Brevard College Baseball standout Ryan Roon was announced as an All-State Second Team infielder selection by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Monday afternoon, marking Brevard’s first NCCSIA honoree in the sport of Baseball since Bennett Hixson secured a second-team nod in 2015.
  • Brevard Splits With Johnson to Earn Series Victory in Season Finale

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (10-26) reached the double-digit win plateau for 2019 and earned a hard-fought series win over the Johnson University Tennessee Royals (10-26) by splitting a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at the Knoxville Municipal Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Brevard utilized impressive baserunning and a complete game from sophomore Ben Melton to claim the first game, 7-5, before narrowly following in the second contest, 5-3. BC picked up a come-from-behind, 12-10 triumph yesterday, earning itself the series victory.  Ryan Roon tallied his 100th career base hit in the first game on Saturday, capping off his junior season in style.
  • Tornados Battle Back for Big Win over Royals, 12-10

    Five Tornado batters tallied multi-hit performances as the Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (9-25) used a five-run fifth inning to come from behind and defeat the Johnson University Royals (9-25), 12-10, at the Knoxville Municipal Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Freshman Jason Jucker, who was hitting leadoff for BC, racked up three hits, four runs, and an RBI double for an impressive, 3-for-5 day.  Donny Carsillo went a perfect 3-for-3, while Ryan Roon’s 3-for-6 performance included a double, a run, and an RBI. 
  • Robinson, Wilkes Garner USA South Baseball Postseason Honors

    The USA South Conference has announced its Baseball All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship teams, tabbing Brevard College junior RHP Kross Robinson as an All-Conference Third Team selection, while sophomore JJ Wilkes earned a nod onto the All-Sportsmanship team. 
  • Tornados Use 15 Hits, Stellar Relief Pitching to Down Wasps, 9-5

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (8-23) secured a season-sweep over the Emory & Henry Wasps (4-27) with a 9-5 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield-DeVault Field in Emory, Virginia. Coming off of a lengthy three-game USA South series against the Covenant Scots, BC utilized an array of pitchers on Tuesday to secure the victory. Everyday first baseman JJ Wilkes made his first appearance of 2019 on the mound to start Tuesday’s contest. Wilkes got through the first inning, letting up two hits and three runs in the frame. Wilkes logged two relief appearances in the 2018 season, but Tuesday marked his first collegiate
  • Scavotto Earns Third USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week Honor of 2019

    For the third time in the 2019 campaign, freshman LHP Matthew Scavotto has been chosen as the USA South Conference’s Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. The freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina earned his first collegiate save as he got the final three outs in a 5-4 win over USA South foe Brevard in his only appearance last week for the Tornados. Scavotto allowed one hit and one walk, but rebounded with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. This distinction marks the 24th USA South weekly honor garnered by a Brevard College student-athlete this academic year.
  • Covenant Storms Past Brevard on Senior Day

    The visiting Covenant Scots (14-19, 7-13 USAS) took two games from the Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (7-25, 2-21 USAS) on Monday afternoon at Gil Coan Field to secure the series victory over the hosts.  The Scots used power and a big five-run fifth inning to take game one, 8-2, before using a monumental nine-run inning to coast to a 19-9 victory in the second game.  The afternoon marked Senior Day for the Brevard College Tornados, who honored Senior RHP Michael Merryman. Merryman made the start in game two, recording a strikeout in one inning of action. 
  • Brevard Holds Off Covenant to Claim Victory at Big League Camp, 5-4

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (7-23, 2-19 USAS) staved off a ninth inning rally to claim a series-opening USA South Conference victory over the Covenant Scots (12-19, 5-13 USAS), 5-4, at Big League Camp in Marion, N.C.  Junior pitcher Kross Robinson (1-6) earned his first win of the 2019 season in emphatic fashion, striking out 10 Covenant batters over the course of his six and two-thirds innings of work. Robinson allowed just two hits and one run in the game, with the run being unearned. 
  • Scavotto Announced as USA South Baseball Freshman Pitcher of the Week

    For the second time in the 2019 campaign, freshman left-handed pitcher Matthew Scavotto has been selected by the USA South Conference as the USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. Scavatto came on in relief to pitch five shutout innings, keeping the Tornados in the game, a 4-1 loss to nationally-ranked Methodist on Sunday, in his only appearance last week.  The freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina tossed the final five innings of the game and allowed just one hit with two walks.
  • No. 21 Methodist Takes 4-1 Decision in Series Finale Over Tornados

    Freshman Matthew Scavotto dazzled in five innings of relief, but the Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-23, 1-19 USAS) narrowly fail to the No. 21 Methodist Monarchs (24-6, 14-4 USAS), 4-1, in the series finale of a USA South Conference three-game series.  Scavotto came on to pitch in the fourth inning and went the rest of the way for the Tornados. The Charlotte, N.C. native allowed just one hit and two walks over the course of his five-inning relief appearance. 
  • BC Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to No. 21 Methodist Monarchs
    April 06, 2019
    JJ Wilkes blasted a two-run homer along with five RBIs total to highlight the Brevard College Tornados (6-22, 1-18 USAS) in its doubleheader matchup against the Methodist Monarchs (23-6, 13-4 USAS), who are ranked 21st nationally in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll. The Tornados held a lead for five and a half innings over the Monarchs in game one before surrendering their lead in a 12-4 final. Methodist led the whole way in a tight, 6-2 decision in the second game of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader, which was rescheduled earlier in the week due to the threat of inclement weather.
  • Greensboro Surges Past Brevard to Complete Series Sweep

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-20, 1-16 USAS) dropped both games of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to the visiting Pride of Greensboro College (12-13, 9-6 USAS), as the Pride finished off a three-game sweep of the Tornados.  Greensboro’s offense caught fire in the first game, scoring 16 runs en route to a 16-7 victory, before the Pride pulled away in a game two offensive battle, 12-9. All told, 44 combined runs were scored in Saturday’s action, along with a total of 56 hits and 19 errors. 
  • Seven-Run Sixth Inning Propels Pride Past Tornados

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-18, 1-14 USAS) fell in the series opener of a three-game home series to the Greensboro College Pride (10-13, 7-6 USAS) by a final score of 14-4 on Friday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. With the game all square at 4-4 through five innings, the Pride cashed in seven runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a commanding 14-4 victory over the Tornados.
  • Pfeiffer Walks-Off to Down Brevard in Heartbreaker, 6-5

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-17, 1-13 USAS) fell in the bottom of the ninth inning as Pfeiffer Falcons (15-4, 9-3 USAS) used a walk-off, RBI single to claim the series sweep over BC.  The Falcons rallied in the game’s final inning, scoring three runs to drop the Tornados in heartbreaking fashion, 6-5.
  • Big Fifth Inning Pushes Pfeiffer Past Brevard, 9-2

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-16, 1-12 USAS) fell in USA South Conference action to the Pfeiffer Falcons (14-4, 8-3 USAS) on Saturday evening at Joe Ferebee Field.  The Falcons and Tornados battled to a 1-1 tie through four innings before Pfeiffer surged for a seven-run fifth inning to help take the 9-2 victory. 
  • Hot Start Propels Falcons to Series-Opening Victory over Tornados

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-15, 1-11 USAS) fell in conference action to the Pfeiffer Falcons (13-4, 7-3 USAS), 4-1, in a series-opening contest on Friday evening. The Falcons used a three-run first inning to push themselves to the USA South victory over the Tornados.
  • Late-Inning Rally Lifts Nationally-Ranked Hawks over Tornados

    Junior RHP Kross Robinson pitched seven innings of scoreless ball, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts, but the Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-14, 1-10 USAS) were upended with a late-inning rally by 11th-ranked Huntingdon College (16-3, 7-3 USAS) by a final score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
  • Ben Melton Pitches Eight-Inning Gem as Brevard Splits Doubleheader with No. 11 Huntingdon

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (6-13, 1-9 USAS) picked up its first USA South Conference win of 2019 in emphatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the 11th-ranked Huntingdon Hawks (15-3, 7-3 USAS) in game one of a doubleheader, 2-1, at Gil Coan Field. BC’s thrilling game one victory was followed by a tightly-contested second game that the Huntingdon Hawks earned a 5-1 victory in.  Brevard’s victory on Saturday brought their 2019 win total to six games, just one shy of the team’s 2018 total. 
  • Series Opener vs Huntingdon Moved to Saturday, March 16

    Brevard College Baseball’s series-opening contest against Huntingdon College, originally slated for Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m., has been postponed until Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. due to impending inclement weather on Friday.
  • Brevard Holds Off Late Roger Williams Rally to Take 7-6 Victory in South Carolina  
    March 13, 2019
    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (5-12) halted a ninth-inning rally, escaping with a slim 7-6 triumph against Roger Williams University (3-3) in non-conference action at neutral-site Lexington County Stadium on Wednesday evening. Brevard jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage before the Hawks tied the contest, 3-3, in the top of the fifth inning. The Tornados used four unanswered runs to hold a 7-3 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning before a three-run RWU homer closed the margin to 7-6. BC clinched the victory on a game-ending double play, securing the Tornados’ fifth win of 2019.
  • Scots Hold Tornados at Bay in Series-Finale

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (4-12, 0-8 USAS) fell in the series finale of a USA South Conference road series to the Maryville College Scots (10-6, 3-4 USAS) at Scotland Yard in Maryville, Tennessee.  The Scots earned the series sweep over the Tornados after a lengthy two-hour rain delay. 
  • Scots Sweep Tornados in Sunday Afternoon Doubleheader

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (4-11, 0-7 USAS) fell in consecutive defeats in USA South Conference play on Sunday afternoon to the Maryville College Scots (9-6, 2-4 USAS) at Scotland Yard in Maryville, Tennessee. The Tornados and Scots battled fiercely through the first game, with the Scots walking off in the 11th inning, claiming a slim 3-2 victory. Maryville used a four-run sixth inning in game two to propel itself to the doubleheader sweep over Brevard, taking a 7-1 victory in the back end of Sunday’s twin bill.
  • Merryman’s Stellar Outing, Seventh-Inning Rally Lifts Tornados over Wasps

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (4-9) earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Emory & Henry Wasps (2-8) in a midweek non-conference test at Gil Coan Field. Senior Michael Merryman (1-1, 3.07 ERA) paced the Tornados with a superb outing. The Cary, N.C. native pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits. Merryman struck out seven batters, tying his BC career-high that was set on February 10 at William Peace.

    The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (3-9, 0-5 USAS) fell in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan (7-3, 3-2 USAS) at Big League Camp in Marion, N.C. 
  • Battling Bishops use Big Eighth Inning to Claim Game One

    The Brevard College Baseball team (3-7, 0-3 USAS) cut a five-run deficit to just one at 6-5 in the seventh inning, however, the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan (5-3, 1-2 USAS) stormed back with a 10-run eighth inning to take a 16-5 victory in the first game of a weekend series at Big League Camp in Marion, N.C.
