#NCAAInclusion Day 4: “Taking Action” - Featuring Women’s Lacrosse’s Nia Davis

BREVARD, N.C. - Throughout the NCAA's Annual Diversity & Inclusion Week, several Brevard College student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff will be featured on bctornados.com

The fourth and final day of the four-day week (October 22-25) is titled "Taking Action" - a day that is focused on outlining personal action steps for inclusive excellence.

#NCAAInclusion Week, sponsored by the NCAA's Office of Inclusion, helps bring awareness and spotlight to diversity and inclusion on college campuses by giving student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff an outlet to share their stories through social media.

Below highlights Brevard College women's lacrosse junior defender Nia Davis, Brevard's sixth feature of #NCAAInclusion Week.

bctornados.com: Take a moment to outline personal action steps that yourself and BC student-athletes can take to promote diversity and inclusive excellence.

Nia Davis: "Making our games welcoming to all, no matter what their interest may be. Our games can be a place where everyone comes together to support the same thing."

bctornados.com: How is diversity and inclusion actively encouraged on your team and on campus as a whole?

Nia Davis: "My teammates and I are all very active on campus in many ways. We help promote diversity by being hands-on. Some of us are student ambassadors, leaders of various clubs, and active in our majors. We welcome everyone."

bctornados.com: What specific ways can student-athletes encourage diversity and inclusion on campus?

Nia Davis: "I think as a student-athlete you are looked at as a leader and a representative of whatever school and sport you play. You are in the spotlight, so I think we should use that influence we have on the campus to promote kindness, acceptance, and understanding that everyone comes from a different background and experience."

bctornados.com: How is diversity and inclusion exemplified in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)?

Nia Davis: "There are different representatives from each sport so each team on campus gets to have a voice and opinion."

bctornados.com: In your own words, explain why diversity and inclusion are important in college athletics, and at Brevard specifically.

Nia Davis: "Having people from different paths increases your knowledge, and knowledge is power. I believe diversity brings richness to our campus because we have people from all over the world. We are constantly learning and it makes our campus a positive place of growth."
