Gavin Morgan Claims USA South Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week Honor

BREVARD, N.C. - After earning a top-10 finish over the weekend at the Zaxby's Open hosted by Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee, Brevard College sophomore standout Gavin Morgan has been selected as the USA South Conference's Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Morgan, a native of Hayesville, N.C., bested his time from last year at the same even by nearly 30 seconds en route to the seventh-place finish in a crowded field of 52 participants.

The honor marks the first USA South weekly honor under the helm of Brevard College Head Cross Country / Track & Field Coach Darryll Patrick, whose Track & Field team last Spring enjoyed success at the ECAC Championships in Connecticut.

Morgan's selection is the second such award for Brevard College in the 2019-20 academic season, as Women's Soccer junior Rebeccah Rojas earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor a week ago.

The Tornados Cross Country teams return to action this Saturday, September 14 as they compete in the Mike & Mary K Invite, hosted by Berea College in Berea, Kentucky.
