Kiprono’s Collegiate Career Ends with Fifth Place Finish

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. – Brevard's Hassan Kiprono, competing in the final cross country race of his collegiate career, crossed the line fifth in a time of 27:12.76 at the USA South Championships on Saturday afternoon which took place at the Tallulah Falls School course.

Kiprono, a native of Iten, Kenya, entered the USA South Conference Championship with two top-10 outings on the season. The first came when he finished eighth at the Tusculum Open (Sept. 1) in a time of 16:30. Kiprono's second top-10 outing came at the Piedmont Invitational (Oct. 7), when he completed the course seventh in a time of 27:53.27, edging out Joey Teachout (Anderson) for his best finish this season.

Michael Anton also had a solid performance for the Tornados, finishing 32nd in a time of 29:29.72. Freshman Jose Bravini ended his first season at Brevard with a 48th place outing after crossing the line in 32:10.12.

Teammates Orrlando Johnson (33:08.15) and Dal Davis (43:56.21) ended the race in 60th and 86th, respectively, for Brevard.

Top honors for the men's 8k went to Berea's Logan McKenzie (25:57.38), as four Mountaineers finished in succession to help bring home the team title in the event as well.

The Brevard women's unit was led by Molly Brown, who ended the race in 75th after a time of 29:59.75. She was followed by Mary Gray Davis (32:35.43; 94th) with only two Tornado women competing in the event.

The women's individual title went to Lindsey Pritchard (Methodist), who finished the 6k event in 22:49.58. The freshman harrier edged Lilly Smith (Covenant) by six seconds. Berea swept the team title as seven runners finished in the top 20 for the Mountaineers on the women's side, including fifth, sixth and eighth, at an average pace of 24:08.58.
