Anton Enjoys Solid Outing at Maryville Invitational

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Brevard cross country teams made their return to the course this weekend at the Maryville Invitational, held on the Scots campus.

Sophomore Michael Anton emerged with the best finish for the men's unit, placing 15th in a time of 30:22.4. Teammate Jose Bravini followed just over three minutes later, finishing 27th at the 33:35.0 mark.

Orrlando Johnson posted the third-best time for the Tornados, crossing the line in a time of 36:27.5 (47th), 10 spots ahead of Michael Terry who rounded out the Brevard team with a time of 44:05.4.

Maryville's Daniel Beckett brought home top individual honors, capturing the victory in a time of 28:00.1. Covenant, which emerged with six top 10 finishers (2nd-6th) was the best overall team at the event with a combined time of 2:23:14.1. Brevard, which had only four participants in the event, was ineligible for team honors.

On the women's side the Tornados were paced by Molly Brown's 39th place outing. Brown finished the course in a time of 31:49.5, edging teammates Mary Gray Davis (33:54.2; 44th) and Mackenzie Lautenschlager (34:06.4; 47th).

Covenant completed the team sweep, earning top billing in the event due in large part to three top 10 finishers, in a combined time of 2:08:55.3. Concordia University's Emily Villines was the top individual at the event, posting a time of 24:05.2. Brevard, which had only three participants in the event, was ineligible for team honors.

Brevard wraps up the regular season next weekend at the Piedmont Invitational (Oct. 7).
