Brevard Cross Country Returns to Action at Maryville Invitational

After a two week break in the action, the Brevard College cross country team returns to the course this weekend when it competes in the Maryville Invitational held on the Scots' campus.

Brevard will be competing alongside Johnson University, Covenant College, Tennessee Running Club, Pfeiffer University, Cleveland State and host Maryville.

In its last event, the Furman Invitational, the men's unit got a boost from Hassan Kiprono, who posted a time of 26:40.70 as the placed 49th of 175 participants.

The Tornados, who had six runners competing in the event, also received a solid outing from Jose Bravini who crossed the line in a time of 32:20.50 (168th). He was followed shortly by Orrlando Johnson (34:39.00; 172nd), Jack Dills (35:17.40; 173rd), Leejhai Wells (40:13.60; 174th) and Dal Davis (42:37.30; 175th).

On the women's side, Brevard competed in the 6k event where it was led by Kaitlin Chaump, who finished in a time of 28:40.85 (133rd). She was followed in the race by Mackenzie Lautenschlager, whose time of 30:13.95 placed her 145th, while the tandem of Molly Brown (31:37.58) and Mary Gray Davis (33:59.89) rounded out the Brevard lineup.

"We're looking forward to competing against other teams within our conference," said head coach Michael McClaran. "This will be a good opportunity to determine our strengths and weaknesses."
