Tornados Set to Compete at Furman Invitational

BREVARD, N.C.
– The Brevard College cross country team will head to Greenville, S.C., on Saturday to take part in the Furman Invitational at the Furman Golf Course. The women's team will begin the event at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's event at 9:15 a.m.

The Tornados are one of 21 collegiate teams featured in the event along with regional opponents Anderson, Clemson, Converse, Erskine, Mercer, North Greenville and host Furman.

Last weekend, senior Hassan Kiprono got the men's team off to a good start with an eighth place showing at the Tusculum Open. Kiprono crossed the finish line in a time of 16:30.0, followed by teammate Michael Anton just over a minute later, who placed 23rd in a time of 17:52.5.

Kaitlin Chaump was the top women's performer for the Brevard women's team at the Tusculum Open as she completed the course in 28th in a time of 24:17.3. Mackenzie Lautenschlager crossed the line in a time of 25:17.4, placing 33rd in her first collegiate event, while teammate Molly Brown finished in 27:10.2 (42nd).

"Our team is really coming together," said head coach Mike McClaran. "Everything we are working towards is to peak at the end of the season so pushing through these early races will really help in the development and direction that we'd like to go."
