Brevard Men Place Fifth at Tusculum Open

GREENEVILLE, Tenn.
– The Brevard men's cross country team got its season off to a solid start with a fifth place showing at the Tusculum Open on Friday evening.

Senior Hassan Kiprono led the way for the Tornados with an eighth place showing, crossing the finish line in a time of 16:30.0. Michael Anton followed just over a minute later, placing 23rd in a time of 17:52.5.

Freshman Jose Bravini earned a top 40 finish in the first race of his collegiate career, completing the event in 37th at a pace of 19:40.7. The final two members of the men's team—Jack Dills and Leejhai Wells—crossed the line in in 52nd and 53rd.

Lincoln Memorial emerged victorious in the men's race as it tallied 38 points due in large part to four top 10 finishers. Carson-Newman's Luke Greer was the top individual at the event, recording a time of 15:38.5.

Kaitlin Chaump anchored the Brevard women's team as she completed the course in 28th in a time of 24:17.3. Mackenzie Lautenschlager crossed the line in a time of 25:17.4, placing 33rd in her first collegiate event, while teammate Molly Brown finished in 27:10.2 (42nd).

Lincoln Memorial completed the sweep of the team event as it captured the women's event with 54 points, edging North Greenville by two. Three members of the Lincoln Memorial team, including individual women's champion Whitney Elliott, crossed the line in succession to take the top three.

The Tornados next compete at the Furman Invitational on Sept. 9.
